Bosted....Perhaps Derby didn't spend enough cash.
Quality shows in the premiership...You might be able to get away with things to a certain extent in this division, but not at the highest level.
Our budget needs to be at least £30 million next season if we get promoted...Just look at how Newcastle are struggling with the wealth of players that they have at their disposal.!
Money talks ....and Derby have no reply.

I agree Mumf .One question though even if we spend 20/30 mil do you have the confidence in our manager to be tactilely astute enough in the prem i for one have major doubts

Well...That remains to be seen, but there are/have been managers in this division who have been reasonably successful to a greater or lesser degree depending on your opinion of success.Take Neil Warnock at Sheffield United...or Watfords manager..
They are behind us at the moment and Pulis' record is excellent so far, compared to the amount of money some clubs have spent.
I cannot see anyone presently who would be able to do a better job with the resources at his his disposal can you.? Mowbray,Robson,McCarthy, etc, etc.

in this division Pulis frustrates me, however in a higher division, with expectations much lower, his strong organisational skills and safety first mindset would guarrantee a much stronger showing than derby. i would fancy us for survival - just.

Again i agree with you Mumf. But i do still harbour doubts about our tatics against the more flexible premiership players and thier movement they have .Loook at Grif he is a decent player in our league but did dreadful at Derby,i know they were a struggling side but will we be any different and Lawrence who struggling Sunderland deemed him surpless to their requirements. But anyhow lets get in the prem first and wait and se mate

Bosted...Don't forget that Pulis has this ability to get the very best out of the players at his disposal. This is happening right now...Just imagine if he had better talent to work with and a much bigger budget.
As for Griffin...I don't think he was happy at Derby and was not at his best.He is improving all the time and is very experienced .He will get better I'm sure...a good signing.!

Sorry, wrong thread.
However, IF we go up, and let's hope we do, I think it's entirely possible that Peter the Pirate will take the £40m, pocket his investment back and retire, leaving the fans and the club back at square one.

mumf - I also think Griffin is past his sell-by date. as much as I want to believe he can improve, he's failed three times at premiership level.
I reckon it's damaged his confidence, but I don't believe he's good enough anymore.

we are hard to beat, with ryan and riggot at the heart of defence we should keep clean sheets against a lot of the more mediocre teams.
as a prem team we may even get some big 4 players on season long loans.
i think we can be reading or wigan as opposed to watford and derby

He's slowed down quite a bit...I'll give you that, but lets be honest,... the current team if promoted, would be our reserve squad apart from 3 or 4 players...If we want to survive in the Premiership we would have to spend BIG TIME.!!!

The thing is mumf - WE (you and I and the rest fo the fans) DO want to survive in the premiership.
Not so sure the chairman's bothered as long as he gets his money back.

Well Alan...I can think of easier gambles to make money than investing in Stoke City football club.If he succeeds in getting the club promoted then we become a much more lucrative offering but I'm not so sure that Peter Coates is so clinical this time around.
Either way we as fans are in a win,win position at the moment...we are on the brink of success. You can't knock the man for bringing this about. If a better offer comes along in the meantime ..then you can't blame him.
Like I said when he first took over..."Give St Peter the benefit of the doubt".
I was mocked at the time, especially given his previous track record....but less so this season.
Only time will tell as they say...

It isnt just about spending 30 mil you have to pay wages as well. If they did go up they dont need to fall into the trap of the Coventrys, Leeds and others that have over spent to try and stay in the greed league. You try to better the squad more or less knowing you will get relegated but if you do drop you know you have a better team to try for promotion the following season. A good example of this is West Brazil, Never over spent and have a better squad to show for it.

TP built the current side to win promotion from this league. We are in with a decent chance of doing that and we will do it (if we do it) at a lesser cost than many of our rivals. If/when we are promoted then TP will have to build a side to try to survive in the Premiership. Many players who are now first choices will become bench warmers and others will have to move on.
Whatever you say about him TP does have an ability to get a decent number of bargins in the transfer market (although he does make his mistakes). So we must hope that he can unearth a few bargins at Premiership level. Having assemebled his squad he does have a track record of getting that squad to perform better than their natural ability would suggest - witness the teams currently below us with more expensive and arguably better squads.
In summary TP has a chance of building a side which can survive in the Prem IF Coates backs him as he has done so far. We will have a big advantage over some of our rivals in that if we get promoted it will be as a club comparatively free of debt and with a stadium which is "fit for purpose" - even though some improvements are desirable. How good a chance we have remains to be seen but I am confident TP will build a far better side than Derby have done and a less fragile side than some in the bottom half of the Prem.
If I were a betting man I'd say our chances of survival after one season in the Prem would be 50/50 and I'd be happy to start next season with those odds - especially as many predicted relegation last season and this! ;D

We've been unable to keep a clean sheet for the majority of games this season, shipping some comedy goals along the way. When I last looked (last week) we'd conceded more than Sheff Wed who are third bottom.

give pulis 20 mill on players, and put the rest into the wages/emergencies pot... that would do the trick
