I see Kirkland has pulled out of the England squad with a bad back. Hope it wont be enough to stop him from playing next saturday.

Just when we have tightened up a bit at the back. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes back.

At least we have an able replacement in Simmo. Who loves flapping, and concedes at least 2 goals a game, however, he is a decent shot stopper ;D

thought the same thing as soon as i heard kirkland was injuried apart from carlo nash ( on loan here ) to my knowledge mike pollitt is there only other fully fit, first-team keeper, and i know one of there reserve keepers Neil Poselthwaite, who may have stepped up......is also injuried i think whether they recall nash or not will depend entirely on the length of kirkland's injury.....

www.wiganlatics.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10429~1272476,00.html Chris Kirkland has been ruled out of England's friendly against France this week with a back injury. Kirland suffered the injury in Wigan's defeat to Blackburn on Saturday, but after treatment on the pitch, was able to continue for the full ninety minutes. Manager Steve Bruce said Kirkland will receive intensive treatment all week before a decision is made regarding next weekend's msatch at Portsmouth. West Ham United's Robert Green has been called into the squad.

Fulop's still being used on their bench as Ward's still injured, so he probably wouldn't be available?

Well there is still no mention of Nash actually being recalled on either the Wigan or Stoke websites.
So lets wait and see - maybe Bruce is going to let him stay.

Nash has done a great job for us but so did Simmo when he was in goal. I think Nash has a bit more about him when coming off his line but all in all it doesnt worry me that Simmo might be back. People seem to point the finger at Simmo because of the amount of goals conceeded, I think the finger needs pointing to defence organisation myself. We seriously lack a leader at the back.

I asked the wigan fans on their board and they said Kirklands injury was not bad and only withdrew to make sure he plays at the weekend.

Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland should be fit to face Portsmouth on Saturday, despite withdrawing from the England squad this week.
Kirkland pulled out of Wednesday night's friendly against France in Paris due to a back injury but Latics boss Steve Bruce is confident he will make the trip to Fratton Park.
"Thankfully common-sense prevailed and Chris didn't have to travel to London to be assessed by the England doctors," said Bruce.
"The journey wouldn't have been ideal for someone with a bad back, but we do expect him to be okay by the weekend, although his back was still a bit in spasm yesterday."
Bruce faces a crisis in midfield as Michael Brown, Wilson Palacios and Jason Koumas are all suspended for the game with Pompey.
"Having three central midfielders out at a crucial stage isn't ideal, but I hope we have enough strength in depth to deal with it," added Bruce.
