" Ive never seen a team lambasted by the press as much as Stoke have been this season ..."
Remember Wimbledon?
We ALL berated their long ball tactic.
We ALL complained they were bully-boys and one-dimensional.
Now we're told by certain fans to applaud the same thing because it's our beloved SCFC playing it!

maybe these reporters should actually go and watch stoke play and then write something, they wind me up talking crap week in week out they havnt got the smallest idea about the way we play football.
they take it upon them selves to brand us as rugby players how many of our players are evan over 6ft, be intresting to see how they react when we start 'bullying and playing route one football' next season.

Who is this cock? He ridicules 'marketing department' of the FL then soaks up the marketing bullshit of 'grand slam sunday'. As for struggling against Liverpool - the same Liverpool who couldn't even score against Barnsley, nevermind draw against them.
Can't understand the continued obsession with daily newspapers in this country, where opinion and storytelling replaced fact many years ago - and gets mistaken for fact by the dumb masses. Tell me what is the point, in the days of the internet, in purchasing yesterday's 'stories' (at best). How can anyone seeing the 8 next to Gallagher believe another single letter printed in that rag?
I haven't bought a newspaper in 15 years. And no amount of crappy mags, worthless supplements and films will tempt me. The sooner the lot of them go bust, a little better this country will be.

I thought the article was one of the most ridiculous things I had read until I saw this -
Stabilise a team in the Prem with less than 10 mill? You are having a fucking laugh.

HERE IS WOT i ROTE
re Michael Calvins 'report' on stoke city vesus blackpool -easter saturday 2008 Michael I read aghast your peurile report on the game between stoke city and Blackpool last saturday I wont even bother to reason with you and yes, Stoke were very poor on the day BUT, to rubbish stoke city's whole season and the whole of the championship the way you did, serves neither you nor the daily mirror any purpose. And to surmise that ANY club being promoted from the current crop will recive £40million but also certain humiliation is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH sir. Again - I wont even bother to try to explain why, assuming you might have even a few journalistic braincells left, to work it out for yourself. Suffice to say - piss poor journalism for a piss poor newspaper provided ably by yourself ! I humbly suggest in future you stick to reporting on your obviously beloved premier league, packed with its full compliment of 'total football teams' and 'well behaved high quality superstars' you must plainly adore. SO good luck with your comical writings for a comical newspaper I hope they pay you well ! and by all means, show this to your sports editior - if you dare !

Quite frankly, anyone who has the brass balls to discharge their birth-venom at the thought of "Grand Slam Sunday", the very epitome of all that's wrong with the game, and then dares to heap ridicule on those teams trying their damnedest to reach and subsequently survive in the Premiership, is beneath contempt.

Starkiller -so true -newspapaers dont tell you the news - they attempt to accurately summarise history
mostly they cant - or wont
definitely an obsolete concept - tis why they give all those free cd's away - only a matter of time before they are all on the dole
a shame really !

to be honest i was reading it and thinking its not far from the truth. we do rely on set pieces and long throws and we are a direct team.
but he nevers mentions bolton and their success playing big sams direct way! big sam touted to be an england manager at one stage.
then i checked his match ratings and he gave GALLY man of the match when he was EASILY THE WORST PLAYER ON THE PITCH. but he was 1 of the 2 current prem players on the pitch wasn't he so that deserves an 8 !!!

I still don't think we can challenge any bad press at the moment - whetever other rubbish lazy journo's like Michael Calvin chose to spew, we are currently awful.
Aimless long-ball, talentless and pedestrian IMO, we need to sort it out and fast otherwise we're going nowhere.

It's clear that we've gone off the boil. We're playing with fear (as are the rest of the seasons top sides, which is why Hull have been able to breeze in with such ease). We are also unable to play our settled side, the one which has taken us to the top, due to suspensions.
So we've resorted to a one-dimensional approach, whereas previously we mixed it up. Its very frustrating to continually see the national press just trot out reports such as these. Take Ferdinand, Ronaldo and Rooney out of Manchester United's team and I'm sure it would be acknowledged as a reason for a below par performance. Take our 3 influential players of the season out of our side and they don't even realise. Its staggering that its possible for someone to earn a decent living writing reports on Championship matches, yet lack even a basic knowledge of this level of football.

We play with Fuller and Lawrence, and we will have no problems, Fuller would've destroyed Blackpool and Lawrence would've aided him, but that's football.
But i'm certain with these 2 for the last 5 games we will see goals, BETTER football and PROMOTION because these are special players in this league.

Do you know something though? I didn't watch Grand Slam Sunday, I found that spending time with my family on Easter Sunday was far, far better. I'd happily watch any match up from this division instead of something like Tottenham - Middlesbrough.
