Am I right in feeling we need a new captain, I dont feel Griffin organises the team well enough out on the pitch.
Its a shame we lost Eustace just when he was getting back into form.
This is also two home games running where the opposition have looked the better team all over with good vision and passing.
Anyone else also getting the feeling Hull are going to creep in there, 3 points on saturday is a must now.

I thought Griff was going to do better than this I must admit. Looking at the three captains this season, Matteo and Griff have really been senior pro-type choices, whereas despite not playing that well SJE was a proper active leader.
The thing is, have we got a stronger candidate? I'd say realistically no at the moment.

when i was writing the post i was thinking of who else, like you say who
the only 2 i could think of were delap and pugh but they are not really leaders,
its an area that needs addressing!

The tragedy is that Higgy can't even get in the squad at Sunderland because Keane says he doesn't have the competitive edge, whereas here he'd always got that and was a cracking leader. If we'd hung onto him we'd almost have been home free by now I reckon.

Sal...Higgy made his bed. TP wanted to build his team around him and he b*gg*rd off so that's one of those things unfortunately. I'm beginning to wonder if Lawrence should've been given the armband. Sometimes a player isn't always the obvious choice but can come in to their own when the going gets tough. I'm guessing Liam's pretty respected after this season by his colleagues and even though TP won't change his Captain now I have a feeling Liam'll come back and give them a few verbals in the run-in On a conspiracy note, it seems documented rightly or wrongly that Eusty and Ric didn't always see eye to eye....Could Tone risk Ric 'stropping off' hence the speedy exit???

I know f... just had a sharp attack of the if onlys there You're right about Liam, even without the armband he's a leader. Just hope he's going to be the catalyst, we can't afford to drift much further (she said in an optimistic voice!).

i feel LL would be weak on the tactical aspects,
he has forward momentum like bothroyd,
maybe a front line of
LL Mama Fuller Bothroyd
maybe the way forward for the final 5 games once suspensions are sat out

I think Liam has ability and passion and has the respect of his team-mates......half the battle at least to be a leader. Until you're given the 'title' you can't always bark the orders BUT I think this means so much that he'll give it a damn good go. As for Ric and Eusty, who knows if this was a part of Ric's form drop. I like to think it was the combination of needing a rest and the suspension thing. Recharge of batteries...even if enforced and I expect him to come out blazing

riccy seems to have the hump about something,
in the last few games he seems detached from the other players engulfed in his own little world

He strikes me as the solo-kind anyway. I'm banking ::)on him coming back as he did last season after suspension. Pressure gets to people in different ways. Talent different from the norm often comes with slightly more 'complicated' characters... that's what makes it special

I agree re: the leadership role totally
it seems like many of our newer players - Riggott, Whelan, Cort, Pugh are all a little on the introverted side and lack a great deal of fire in their bellies - Infact I also question Griff's ability as a Captain and feel we sorley miss SJE too.
We have Dicko and Wilko rarely getting a game yet I feel they are 2 who show that 'cup tie' spirit needed to get the maximum from our final 6 games. Id also rather see Shawcross at centre half than Cort as I feel he is also a more gutsy performer.
Fortunately Liam is back next week and I see him as at least inspirational (if not a leader in the traditional sense) and hope that with Glenn Whelan going back to his old club, a new striker in situ and the (currently) dreadful Cresswell being given a long overdue rest, we can still pull this one out of the bag.
Whether TP and his loyal stubborness to certain players in certain positions costs us dearly - only time will tell.
