Evident again today how we are crying out for someone in the middle of the park who can get hold of the ball and make use of it. Today we produced nothing but long-balls to Jones then Mama. It was working ok when Jones was on the field because the ball was sticking, but once Mama came on we won little in the air and posession was constantly being retrieved by Wolves. I'm not saying we should fully scrap this approach as it can cause problems at times, but we need to start mixing things up, we looked short of ideas at times today. It's certainly not the end of the world or a reason for complete despondancy, but it's a big two weeks for this club in terms of trying to address the weak areas, I still think we are a minimum of 3 players short of what we need. Priorities hopefully are a right midfielder with pace, a creative central midfielder and at least one full-back. Let's hope we get a positive response next week against Spurs.

We tried another dimension when Tuncay came on for Mama.
It didn't work big style.

Trouble is at the moment all our play revolves around playing the ball down the line into channels where Fuller will either produce some magic and beat 5 players, or we will end up with a throw in.
We really need to look at something else as well as that. Play through the middle of the pitch, keep giving it to Ethers and Fuller even if it is not happening for them on the day.

We tried another dimension when Tuncay came on for Mama. It didn't work big style. You don't seem to understand that simply bringing a player on who's talents are more suited to a different style of football is not trying a different dimention. Unfortunately we are not equpped to have a different dimention due to the fact that the manager refuses to sign midfielders who can pass a football. Never mind we'll get kovac next week, who incidentally couldn't pass water. Its football for gods sake not cross country, footballing ability counts.

Even TP must realise that we can't continue to play this same boring crap complete with long throws for another season. I'm Stoke through and through but have to admit it is dire to watch week after week and everyone in this league is now wise to it. It's change or suffer the consequences in my view. Your view on the players we need is spot on and Walters and Kovac hardly fit the bill if reports from their current fans are to be believed.

For Kovac see Dean Whitehead or Glenn Whelan he is no better than what we have.

A long throw led to the goal. It is the most effective set play in the Prem. Why would we abandon it????
There were many problems today, apart from KJ, the long throws were the only bright spots.

Why would we abandon it???? ^ This. This is how Tony Pulis plays football ... this is how Tony Pulis has always played football - it's brought him lots of success as a manager and he hasn't ever been relegated as a manager playing football this way - there is absolutely no fuckin' reason why he should change and maybe even more importantly ... it's highly unlikely that he could change - even if he wanted to. Asking for a change is asking for a new manager.

spot on with the analysis paul.
we need a few players in the stated positions to take pressure of fuller and etherington.
rory delap im afraid is becoming something of a scapegoat, i think if he was deployed in the salif diao role, he would be very effective, but out wide he offers nothing offensively apart from his long throw. this could be a long august if something isnt changed.

Well said but march can't take it because his lover sidibe played his usual Non contribution shit rightly got subbed but the dick didn't realise the tactics only are played to suit him only and NO ONE ELSE so he has ago ata talented player in Tuncay because he wants him to fail but certainly does not want pulis change the tactics to suit him bizarrely ie a midfield that can actually play football and link with tunny and ric!

I think some of the best centre forwards in the Prem would struggle to shine in this Stoke team, just pump it up shoulder height and deal with it seems to be the policy. As mentioned before Delap is left to hang and and dry on the wing and we are so desperate for two quality centre midfielders. You can't compete in this league with just huff and puff you actually need some football brain in there, and don't get me started on centre back playing at full back.

There is nothing wrong with the system Pulis adopts, but to take us forward he has got to get better players into the system and play the ball more on the ground when he hits the two front men.Vary it between the aerial and ground passes for a start.

The only other out-lets we have when going forward (other than hoofing up to Mama) are Etherington and Fuller. We rely on these two to do something special, if they dont perform then we are relying on set-pieces.
Our defense has so much pressure on it due to the poor midfield that it eventually makes mistakes, we need somebody who can pick up the ball at the edge of our box and carry it more than two yards and hopefully notch in with a few goals as well. It would also help if he could pass the ball to a Stoke player.

Roy you are spot on.We can play with two holding midfield players if we have pace on either side, and at the moment we only have Etherington,

Rubbish, we have better players that are not wanted because the gaffer does not want to change HIS style of the game. Tuncay should be a center half as he runs more than most and can read a game, Kitson would and should be our center forward Ric as the other forward. If we persist in using Rory then we need a better right back to help him out but with a better center half in place then that may help Rory, other than his pace but an over lapping back would give the right some options. We need the management to grow some bollocks and get a game plan sorted that allows the better players to play not get pissed off when subbed due to the current plan, as they have little respect for them as it stands, this is why our player options are only for the yes men not the creative ones.

Asking for a change is asking for a new manager. We could evolve our play so we had some like Noble in the middle who can control the game though. A balanced team would be a nice start though. The sad fucking thing is we play well in the past when the team has been balanced yet it seems to have been abandoned for Delap on the right. Is he fookin' blind? Evolution not revolution. The same old, same old could well see us struggling.
