STOKE CITY: PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL AT CHAMPIONSHIP PRICES? 1 reader has commented on this story. Click here to read their views.
09:40 - 21 March 2008
Stoke City fans could be watching Premier League football at the Britannia Stadium next season for just £2-a-game more than this season, The Sentinel can reveal today.
Adult prices for Boothen End season-ticket holders are rising by just £45 from £299 to £344 for 2008/09 - if they are bought before April 17.
The club is confident fans will flock to the cause to swell the number of season-ticket holders to 10,000 by the April 17 deadline for the new prices.
Ticket prices will jump again thereafter - particularly if the club wins promotion - and so fans have just four weeks to take advantage.
"We hope that next season our fans will be watching Premier League football at Championship prices," said chief executive Tony Scholes as he unveiled the new price structure.
"This is not a gimmick," he added. "We currently sit proudly at the top of the league with seven games remaining and therefore, by any account, have a good chance of being promoted.
"Unlike some other clubs who have introduced a similar initiative when the club are lying midway or in the bottom half of the table, this offer represents a very real and genuine chance for people to watch Premier League football at Championship prices."
He said the prices on offer would also be among the cheapest, if not the cheapest, in the Premier League if Stoke do win promotion.
A full run down of season-ticket costs for 2008/09 will be printed in a special pull-out in tomorrow's Sentinel. But today we can also reveal that supporters will be offered a 10-month interest-free payment option that would work out at £35-a-month for Boothen End season-ticket holders.
The club is also stressing the cheap cost for youngsters - despite a rise from £23 to £46 (around £2-a-game) for under-11s.
Age bands will also be changed in the Family Enclosure to try to attract more young children and their mums.
Stoke currently have around 8,000 season-ticket holders, plus a further 1,200 taking up the recent mini season-ticket offer, but will expect a healthy increase if the current Championship leaders are playing top-flight football next season for the first time in 23 years.
Meanwhile, the club has confirmed it will screen the final away game of the season at the Britannia Stadium if Stoke's fortunes rest on events at Colchester on Saturday April 26.

Yes they're cheap....but so is the minimum wage...so is the area.
The increase is immaterial to those who can afford it....and likewise to those who cannot.!
There is no middle ground.
The difference will be the F.A. handouts and sponsorship monies to the clubs coffers.
