Whereas Walters was wank in the Championship! was he though, none of us actualy know do we Yes he was. And we do. At the very best this signing can be described as odd imo. It does have Soares and Tonge and Kitson and Seyi and Davies and Sonko written all over it. Time will tell and I hope he does well and we sign some bugger else for the right wing so he is back up. If he's being bought as a striker then I despair.

The club will have seen Walters many times over the course of 18 months as this is the length of time we've been after him if you believe the rumours. Apart from the odd live Championship game who on here can say they've even seen him play? Yet he's not good enough, a squad filler, worse than Lawrence. Priceless. If the manager thinks he has the skills/character to add to the squad we have to back his judgement. Perhaps this signing will bring a few of you down from cloud cuckoo land, we're not in the market for 10/12m players earning 60k a week and rightly so imo as we need to build gradually. The likes of Walters and O'Neill we're always going to be Pulis type signings and I expect him to bring both in along with a couple of big name loan signings at the 11th hour (from someone like Man City no doubt). Some people spend too much time playing Football Manager and get carried away thinking we're Real Madrid or something........ You make some valid points but after 2 successful years in the Prem I'm not sure he's exactly a "push us on" signing. Liam was proven to be the better player when they were at the same level so I'm not sure how he is now so much better (and has had quieter scoring seasons since that year.)

And the Ipswich fans are 100% united that he's got absolutely nowhere near that 07-08 form in either of the past 2 seasons, and has looked a bit of a shadow of the player.
They can't believe they're getting 3m for him after his last 2 seasons.

I`d prefer him to delap (on the right). The thought of him trundling up and down the wing, with the speed of a milkfloat going up hill, again makes me want to take me season ticket back!!

You could argue the same about Liam but then Liam has been playing at a higher level since then.

Once again, I'm not expecting a big name but wasting money on a player who is average in the Championship won't get me excited and I will always see it as pointless, especially when we have a better player on the books. As I put earlier, TP's forays into this market have all been disasters. O'Neil would be a thoroughly decent signing, Walters I don't think is. Both of them

They seem happy enough because of the stupid fee.

he won't be 1st choice, that place is for delap because he can throw. Pulis has a habit of collecting captains, Walters is no different. Again, how can TP justify selling Lawrence for 2M & bringing in Walters for 3M. I'll reserve total judgement myself until he plays but its not an inspired signing is it, it's not a signing to make you think yeah, we mean business. We are going for attitude over quality. I said this would happen ages ago on the NEW SIGNINGS thread and got laughed off the board by many with comments like "Fuck off! we've moved on!" & "maybe he'd of been a good signing in our first season, but not now!" I'd love to be able to find the exact pages. Everybody still so sure Marlon Harewood won't be signing?

We've somehow got suckered into the belief that 3m is a "small fee".
It's still one hell of a sum for an average Championship player with little pedigree, surely?
To quite a few clubs this summer, even in the Prem, that'd be the bulk of their budget for a marquee signing

Jon Walters? Where's Pav, Cole, Jenas, Pennant et al? It's like last season all over again - being slapped down from a Paul Scholes shaped horse, right into the saddle of a Whitehead shaped donkey! Yeah but Whitehead did turn out to be a good signing.

Cracking hat-trick from him here (1st, 4th and 6th goals)
I think he's a much more direct player than Lawrence which could be useful.

If it is £3m, seems a bit steep....but surely more likely to be £1-2m up front...then add ons. Daily Mail do seem to pluck figures out of the air sometimes! As TP has been trailing this guy since we go promoted...he must have something...I am quite happy to reserve my judgement...if he signs that is!

whats all the fuss ? the daily mail never get our transfer rumours correct, mainly due to the fact they take their stories off the new signings thread.
3 million ! i really don't think so - surely.

Since that day I lost faith in his ability to spot a player in the Championship that can make the step up and our ability to get value for money! ;D I know people don't rate him but 500k for Whelan, 500k for Lawrence, great deals for players that we still haven't replaced spending millions.

Have sent a mail to my mate asking if 100% true, his response was.

I remember Everton fans saying Tim who when they signed Cahill and the rest is history. It is always a gamble when a player steps up a level but that's why you have the player watched over the course of a season. Does he have the skills to fit into your system, has he the character to fit into the squad, is he capable of raising his game to the level of those around him?
Lawrence has had a poor couple of seasons imo and Walters will be a slight improvement. Whether he is good enough to do it consistently in the Premier League time will tell but I'm prepared to give him the chance.....................

As usual - it's a real let down if true - especailly after all the players that have been suggested as possible signings - the old transfer window rumour mill strikes again and bites us in the arse !
