O Burslem thy stinky town Thy stink so bad my eyes water And I smell from Trentham!!! Although that's funny in its truthfulness, are you trying to write in haiku? Because it should be five syllables, seven, then five again. Burslem, stinky town. The waft of fecal matter Stings my Meirite eyes.

It's not mate, it's typical Fail paranoia and excuse-making, and part of the reason for my antipathy towards them. What are physilities by the way? I hope this older Vile fan isn't teaching you English?

Well if you were a few years older, you'd probably think differently after the bile coming from their part of the city when they had their day in the sun. But if you were even (older and wiser) then you would know that historically the Potteries could once boast of hundreds if not thousands of 'fans' who although their first team was Stoke City , that this did not prevent them from watching Port Vale. We are also talking about many ex players too , from both clubs infact. This antagonistic rivalry only really appeared to the forefront when John Rudge did a magnificent job in raising them from the ashes in the late eighties /early nineties.....I can even remember Vale helping Stoke out when the roof blew off at the Vic.! We are only a small city...lets not pretend this is Manchester or Birmingham .?

Did Vale think it was good for the city when we were relegated twice in the 1990s? They are scum and the day they're relegated to the Conference can't come a day too soon for me.
Some of you Vale sympathisers should get a grip as well.

The rivalry in Stoke is a strange one. The Vale have been in Stokes shadow apart from a few years in the 90's. Since then, my view of then has changed from hatred to irrelevance. I wouldn't say i hate them anymore but i wouldn't say i liked them either. My housemate is a Vale fan, we enjoy abit of banter when either of us loses but he takes more pleasure in it than i do, infact its got to the point where i don't really bother anymore. However, i started going to Stoke in '92 and so i know what it can be like if we started to play again. The Potteries Derby can be as big as any in this country if it was played regulary. scfc2010, if that happens, trust me, you'd change your stance on the Vale!

Our relegation was our bloody fault...no one elses.!
As for being scum....well they used to be managed by one of our all time great players...Sir Stanley Matthews no less! Was he 'scum ' too. ?
We all 'shit in the same pot'.. in this City pal....whether you like it or not.!
You are the one who needs to a grip...!

That post pretty much sums it up for me, and its no coincidance i started following stoke around the same time. Definately a generation thing in it for me. Your comments about your housemate make me laugh aswell. The majority of my mates follow vale and each and everyone of them seem to share the same views as him. They never have anything positive to say about stoke, im sure if you check there forum there will be no end of anti stoke threads and posts ( despite some quite positive ones on here about them). Like you i find there to be more of an irrelevance than hatred on my part. It seems though that they are more concerned about us than they are there own team. A perferct weekend for a vale fan would involve stoke losing, regardless of there result. As for there chances next year, that all depends on whether they can keep Mickey Adams. If they start well and a big team comes knocking ive do doubt he will jump at the chance, leaving vale right up shit creek. If however they can keep hold of him for the season they have a very good chance of getting out of that division.

I started watching Stoke in the early 70`s. I loved being a Stokie and vale were my neighbours. I didnt mind them losing but I liked to see them do well, afterall it was Potteries football and a local victory was always good. Then came the 80`s and 90`s, we were awful and they werent bad. Did they have pity on us ? Wish us a speedy recovery ? Get behind us `til we pulled through ? Came and supported us when vale were away ? No, they loved it. Gloated every minute of the day, took the piss wherever possible and thought they were something special. Do I look out for their result now ? Do I wish them well ? Do I support Potteries football ? Do I fcuk. Rot vale. The sooner that club and there scummy fans cease to exist the better.

I think the Vale will finish 10th just above Dario's Crewe. Can see Mickey Adams leaving midway through the season on to bigger and better things. League 2 is going to be alot tougher this season.

"No true Stokie would wish Vale well". Just about the most conceited and stupid comment I've read on here. Speak for yourself Ron and not the whole of Stoke City's support (many of which disagree with you). So we're supposed to hate them because they made the most of their few minutes of superiority over us? Jesus, how amazing that football fans take the piss out of a set of local rival's fans who have taken the piss out of THEM for their entire history. I've been a fanatical Stoke fan for the best part of half a century and I WISH VALE WELL. Sorry if that makes me not a true Stoke fan in your eyes but I rather suspect that it's not me with the problem. scfc might well be young in years but is clearly a damn site more mature than some.
