Fair play to 'em. They've shown they've got a good sense of humour this World Cup.

thats mint, now they can write about their world series. (that only US team compete) Isn't it called that because of an old sponsorship with something? Sort of like the 'Carling Cup', I went to a White Sox game a couple of weeks ago while on holiday and asked someone why it's called the 'World' series

That's brilliant, good on them for having a laugh at themselves. Squeekster, I think they call it "Football" because it's played on foot as opposed to polo or something. It's some archaic term anyway.

I think if you don't think it's funny, you're missing the point. I think it's funny as hell and I obviously am opposed to the general American disdain for the sport.

I know the Americans i have spoken too about it belive that it derives from the origanal ball being 12" from tip to tip (modern ones 11") hence 12" = a foot, and as we all know America still use imperial measurments.

Yeh, started out as rugby. But they have to "improve" everything. They don't like complcations like forward passes. They like as few rules as possible. Think thats why basketball is so popular.

Having played all both Rugby at High School, and "American" Football at University, would you like me to explain the similarities, the key differences, and the way in which the latter can clearly be seen to have evolved from the former.
It really should also be pointed out that the governing body of Rugby formed in 1870 is called the RFU ... Rugby FOOTBALL Union
