In what way? Delap is a superior and cleverer defensive midfielder. Okay, I will clarify: - Whitehead is a better footballer than Delap. Delap can throw the ball further. Goodnight WD

;D The good old all he can do is throw argument, I expected better from You WD! Delap spots danger better than Whitehead and therefore protects the back 4 better, therefore he plays the role better. He also has the fitness of Whitehead and the hustling and bustling skills. As for passing, they both can pass it 5 yards and that's all they have to do. Whitehead needs goals for me.

Ledley is going to be better than both of them, so stop your squabbling

Delap is as fit as a fiddle, probably the fittest in the squad! Maybe he doesn't run around like a headless chicken enough for You Beardy?

I don't think there's a lot in it to be honest. They're similar players but perform their duties in slightly different areas of the pitch.
Deano harries in the middle of the park whereas Rory does tremendous work tracking runners and generally helping the back four out.
Both good team players, both keep running all day but neither great with the ball at their feet or in the top half of the pitch.
Both very good pro's though.

Pretty much what Jamo and Bayern have said.
Rory is the best midfielder at the club for me. Consistently plays at a high level in the middle, unlike the sporadic Whelan and the good-for-the-middle-bit-of-the-season-crap-otherwise Whitehead.
Oh, and I bet that if Rory played away at Man City on Boxing Day, they wouldn't have scored that goal when Collinsinho wandered off from marking his man because there was a man free in the middle, Delap would have been in the middle covering for Abdy.
I actually think Delap's footballing intelligence makes him good coaching and possibly management material.

He still should be captain I think too and it should never have been given back to Griff. Rory strikes me as a leader and well respected pro too. Anyway when Noble signs*, he will be better than them all! *For the love of God, I hope this happens.

I would certainly welcome that as the "surprise" coach news that Dave mentioned.

And Ledley is a younger, better version of Delap, who is far more comfortable in possesson and doesn't look nearly so awkward with the ball. imo

I'm prepared to see what he can do bogus, but as far as I know he isn't a "holding" midfielder is he?
I'm yet to be that impresed on the little I've seen, but TP has long been an admirer so there must be summat about him.

I hope You're right. ;D We'll see. Jamo-if he isn't, then I don't know what he is! But in these last 2 years he has been employed as a holding midfielder for Cardiff. He sits in the middle and does what he's told. It's why TP likes him. He is versatile too.

He used to but in these past two seasons when I've seen him he had played a holding role and Whittingham has played higher up the pitch.

Imo, he does exactly the clever, sometimes unnoticed, covering of his team mates that Delap does. As such, I think he will eventually do well in the cage. Maybe that's why Lennon wanted him? Maybe he sees similarities with himself, which I could understand? ** He said this about Didier Deschamps, for those who never heard the quote

Fair enough you pair, you've obviously been paying more attention to him than I have!
I don't recall him being much of a ball winner though, which is what he would need to be in our team in that role?

He goes missing when I've seen him and he really hasn't impressed.
But I also think a move may do him good and that he may have gone stale.
As I said earlier, clean slate from me now.
