Is our style really "uniquely awful to watch"?
It is not a style with which I am overly enamoured but for a club in our financial position it has its merits and it is obviously proving successful.
I also find it difficult to believe that the other 91 clubs all play some form of expansive carpet football.
While we might like to think we have always been a team that has been easy on the eye to watch, is this actually the case?
I have this afternoon watched the "highlights" of the 1983 match away at West Ham.
Brendan O'Callaghan went off injured in the first few minutes and we ended up playing Chamberlain and Painter as the 2 strikers. Yet even with those 2 up front (and McIlroy, Thomas & Bracewell in midfield), all we seemed to want to do was hoof it high and hopeful in their general direction (and this in the season before Barker went all POMO).
However, this criticism is not just aimed at one team. West Ham also seemed to want to keep the ball away from McIlroy & Thomas by hoofing the ball aimlessly from front to back.
I must admit that watching the 1983 Big Match repeats has cleaned some of the rose tinting off my glasses when comparing today's game with that of yesteryear.
It would be interesting to see what some of today's youngsters think of football in 1983 having now had the chance to watch some themselves.

When you get fully paid up PHWs thinking you are the one going over the top, then just maybe you are the one who should be giving it a rest?

totally agree Kinnell
With a manager who can make use of this strong squad weve got, we could be pissing on this poor league

because we don't see Fail as our rivals, we see the dingles, your mob, derby and the manchester teams as our historic rivals 'Historic' rivals? Why? The feeling just isn't reciprocated on our part. We only have two 'historic' rivals and thats Wolves and the Villa. Stoke-West Brom was the first ever professional football match. We kicked off a few minutes before everyone else. I remember it well
