Just been told Gerry will be assisting Paul Dickov at Oldham.

You must be strong if you had him on your back.

Hope it works out for him - wouldn't mind him back at Stoke one day.

Saw him in the dugout yesterday when they entertained Barrow in a friendly. Looked a decent outfit Oldham, good luck to him and Dickov.

Only played the first-half because Oldham changed most of their side around at HT. Had a solid game though whilst he was on the field. Oldham's pick of the players for me was Chris Taylor whose been formerly linked with us. He had to come off through injury on 35 minutes but up until that point he was very impressive. Whilst on the topic of Barrow, Russell Hoult is being heavily linked with a move to them! Would be a massive coup at that level.

That's the problem with Tayls Luke, he's ridiculously injury prone. Could be a decent player, but instead will end up scraping around the lower leagues. Leeds nearly signed him last season (in a swap deal for Andy Robinson and Mike Grella) but they ended up pulling out due to fitness concerns.
Hoult would be a tremendous addition for Barrow. Is Darren Sheridan still boss there?

Is Darren Sheridan still boss there? He is yeah, with Dave Bayliss as his joint manager. Both are still registered players too, they each played 45 minutes on Saturday. I was always sceptical whether joint managers would work for Barrow when they took over, but they've done tremendous in securing promotion from the Conference North and stabilising themselves in the Conference, not to mention winning the FA Trophy! It's a tough division though full of plenty of ex-football league teams, Barrow will be looking just to try and beat the drop again.

Looking from a distance, they seem to have done an incredible job! Out of interest, did Dickov get on the pitch for Latics?

Dickov is definitely a registered player for them though so I'm sure he'll feature at some point during their season. I'm sure he could still do a job at that level.

Yeah, I know quite a bit about Oldham as my cousin was a director there last season. I think they've gone for the cheap option to be honest with him and worry that he won't be up to the task. As a player, he would be a good addition. As manager, it might be a completely different story. They're in bad financial trouble too and have just lost their chairman, replacing him with their old MD.

I'm sure they'd welcome survival again in the next campaign.
