Quite suprised we've let Wedderburn go.

Yes, Wedderburn is a surprise - current England U19 international, and with the new squad restrictions coming up - I was expecting that we would give him a new contract and then send him ort on loan.

This club really do puzzle me sometimes! A young lad with obvious potential and we let him go for nowt! He wouldn't have cost a lot on a new contract and be farmed out on loan to learn his skills in the lower league!
I have seen him a few times in the reserves and I have always been very impressed with him indeed, and as said above he is a current England U19 International!!!

I'm very disappointed Wedderburn has been released, I though we were expecting big things from him.
Will we ever see a youth player given a chance at Stoke under TP? Wilko and Dicko are the only ones to have even made the slightest impression, and you get the feeling that the latter is here on borrowed time despite our lack of alternative options in his position.
Not very forward-thinking is it really? Marshall and Moult to bite the dust next season? We might as well scrap all the youth and academy stuff and save ourselves some cash.

Of the players out on loan who are returning to Stoke, I can't see any one of them not being made available for transfer.
None of them would offer us anything so its time for them to move on.
Other than that there are no surrises on there. Amdy Faye will doa good job for a championship club or a team looking for promotion to the championship. I'd be very very surprsied to see him go to a Premier league club but the again sonko played at Hull this season (but we all know what happened to them)

So that's 31 professionals (32 if you count Danzelle), of whom five or six are under 21.
Am I right in thinking that the new rules for next season mean that we can have a maximum 25 players over the age of 21? Are "loaned-out" players included in that figure?

It looks as though some serious surgery is needed to get us down to the requisite squad size of 25 seniors for next season. Tha'ts before we can even think about bringing in new talent. Where's Dave when you need him?

yes but even we all know that there are at least 6 players who will definitely be leaving regardless of fees.
Beattie Kitson Griffin Tonge Sonko
To name but 5.

Same as any other club in the Prem - I think this will be good for the Championship and Div 1 as it will hopefully stop all Prem teams having large squads and keeping bums on benches

So some players who we fail to sell we will just send out on season long loan deals (namely Shotton/ Davies/ Dicko etc)
I wouldn't be surprised to see us send out around 10 players on season long loan deals.

They don't have to be loaned out or anything, they can play for the reserves, they just can't play in the first team squad if they are not in the 25.

I don't get this new rule. Presumably the '25' can be altered at any time or is only relevant between August 31 and December 31st and then again between January 31st and the end of the season.......or am I being a thick cunt?

Yeah. You've got to submit a new 25 after each transfer window, Sheikh.

Yeah. You've got to submit a new 25 after each transfer window, Sheikh. Cheers Fm. I'm still being a bit dumb though. Say we have 25 registered on the 31st December then on the 1st January Zigic finally gets his dream move. Does the 25 apply in the window, do we have to boot anyone out or can he not play until 1st feb?

Presumably the '25' can be altered at any time or is only relevant between August 31 and December 31st and then again between January 31st and the end of the season.......or am I being a thick cunt? The new rule is.... Premier League clubs must name a squad of 25 senior players who will be eligible to play in the league fixtures. Eight of this squad must be "home grown" (i.e. spent three years at a UK based club before the age of 21) The list of 25 players can only be changed DURING transfer windows, but can be changed an unlimited amount of times during these periods. The squad can be supplemented with an unlimited number of players under the age of 21. So basically we can only name 25 players over the age of 21, and 8 of these must be from the UK, but we can use as many young players as possible... not that we will.

Good question. ;D news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/8530590.stmThe BBC's version of the rules states that - Changes to the squad list of 25 may be made during the period of a transfer window.
So presumably as soon as you hit January 1st, you can begin making ongoing modifications to the 25 on a one in-one out, signing-by-signing basis, until you hit Feb 1st and then you've got to stick with that compliant 25 for the rest of the season FrodeKippe's rules seem to confirm

Its a disgrace the club hasn't produced ONE academy player worth offering a contract to. in fact over the latter years their record has been abysmal in producing players to step up.. with one or two exceptions. Time for a clear out and a rethink as with the ridiculous amounts being paid for and to players to ensure our long term future we need to start producing our own.

We offered Moult from the academy a contract so that's not strictly true. It's just that it was done a few months ago.
As for Wedderburn I'm surprised in the sense that he is still young and wouldn't take a place up in the squad. But I'm not surprised because I don't think he's that good.
