i just watched www.101greatgoals wrap up of the premier leagues season best goals, and i started to wonder why we dont shoot much ? as a kid, playing football all i wanted to do was shoot the ball and score ! But at SCFC it seems to be a rare thing. Sure, Glen Whelan puts his usual 3 shots a game 20 feet over the bar, Sidibe puts his shot from in front of goal into the corner flag. But, Fuller seems to like to dribble the ball in, Kitson put in a few good shots, as did Beattie and that shot by Pugh amazingly saved by Van der Saar on Sunday was a beautiful thing ! I would just love to see us shoot more, take a bloody shot on goal once in a while instead of trying to either throw it in or dribble it in, and considering we only scored what 34 goals in 38 games,( or something like that) it couldn't hurt now could it ?

I agree! It's probably a confidence thing, I'm sure next season if the lads start hitting the net a bit more frequently they'll get the confidence to go for a few more audacious shots.

I do agree though, we haven't really scored a "screamer" this season, like we did last with Lawrence, and he grabbed a couple in promotion season from distance too. It's just so much sweeter when the goal's a beauty than when it's a set piece

I think Whelan's goal against Man City was a real 'why you should shoot' moment.
He didn't hit it as well as he could, but he hit the target and Given made an error. As some Scottish fella says, "if you don't buy a ticket, you can't win the raffle".

Decent service from midfield would surely yield more shooting opportunities. But with 90% of our play the ball comes down with snow on it. Next season, you watch. HERE WE GO!!! GOOOAAARN STOKE

Most goals come from within 10 yards of the goal from set pieces.
Long range shooting is an utter waste of time. Getting a throw in is far more profitable for us.

Anyone remember Higgys 40 yard volley against Man City away in the cup? That was quality!
I agree we should shoot more, but then again, I always yell "dont shoot" if it's anyone other than Whelan or the front twowith a bit of space 30-25 yards out.... Huth, Whitehead and Delap can barely hit a barn door.

i think the fact that our chances come few and far between means that we strive to make the most of every chance.
this means we're far less likely to "'ave a go" from distance.
how many games have we had since being promoted where we've won 1-0 with 1/2 shots on target?

As it stand the only players we have that are capable of hitting the ball from distance are Liam and Glenn. Liam hasnt played much this season so that leaves only Glenn and he is generally closed down pretty quickly as opposition know he can hit the ball from distance. The majority of the team shooting from range would just mean we continually lose possession

I think the reason we don't shoot is that I can't think of a player who I'd like to see take a shot from further than about 6 yards out, I'm sure Pulis has explained to them he doesn't want them shooting unless its a tap in...and even then with players like Delap, Whitehead and Fuller even that's not a guarnteed goal

II'd settle for us to get 4-5 shots on target per game and that would be a big improvement. Why are all our players virtually incapable of keeping the ball low when shooting?

That is completely, totally and utterly wrong. Every statistic ever compiled on how goals are scored has concluded that they mostly come from within 10 yards of goal. The secrets to scoring goals involve getting the ball into that danger area as often as you can. It doesn't matter if the ball goes in via foot, head, knee or backside. Fromafar, I really would love to watch a team manged by you. Ball playing girls at full back who get trampled on every time the opposition attack, more girls in centre midfield and attacks that consist of tip tap crap on the half way line before one of the girls 'shoots' from 50 yards straight to the opposition. Even Bon Accord weren't that bad. ;D

I've lost count of the amount of times this season I've had my jaw on the floor at misses we made, some shockers.

the thing that annoys me is, if we did shoot and manage to keep it down , even if it didn't go in there is a real chance of some sort of deflection to give us a set piece which we are good at !!
