WOLVES boss Mick McCarthy says he allowed Jay Bothroyd to join Stoke on a month's loan today to help the Molineux men's push for the play-offs.
Bothroyd stands by for a possible debut at Watford tomorrow after being brought in as cover for injury-threatened Mama Sidibe.
And McCarthy explained today: "They (Stoke) aren't in competition with us given the points difference, but maybe Jay can do us a favour and do a bit of damage to our competitors."
One fixture McCarthy will have in mind is Stoke's home game with play-off contenders Crystal Palace at the Britannia on Monday, April 7.
McCarthy, who signed Bothroyd from Charlton shortly after taking charge at Molineux in July 2006, added: "One or two First Division sides have been in for him, but he didn't want to drop down a division.
"There were a couple of Championship sides in as well, but Stoke came in yesterday."
Bothroyd, who can play wide or up front, met his new colleagues for the first time today at their Hertfordshire hideaway.
He scored his last goal for Wolves in an FA Cup tie in January... at Watford
