Are we so inflexible that we have to bring in a Mama replacement to play a mama role when the great man is injured.
Surely we could shuffle the cards we have and play a bit different.
Let's see how things work out but I'm even more nervous now

We could but that's how Pulis plays!

Do Stoke fans instantly have to pour cold water or whinge about a signing even before they have played?

I think many would like to see a little change in emphasis but in reality with only 8 games to go it’s not going to happen. I am sure the manager would say, we have got this far playing the way we do and to change things now would disrupt the side.
I do feel sorry for Paul Gallagher though, he should be on the left at least tomorrow, we need players who can produce that little something different to win games.
As for Bothroyd, not sure I would call him a Mamma type player he is more like Fuller.

Fuller - southampton reserve higginbotham- " " Lawrence- sunderland reserve
Notice the pattern, Bothroyd is an extremely talented player, playing in the right team, he can do damage, he has just fallen out with mick ,that's all....

Playing like we have has got us to 2nd in the league with 8 games left - why change a successful formula now?
Have faith!

Sort of agree with SIOCH. I cannot remember seeing Bothroyd play for some time, so I don't know what he is like at the moment, but, he never used to be a Mama type player. He might be tall, but he was skillfull and quick.
This is a sign of how far we've come. Two years ago people would have been satisfied with this kind of player as a permanent signing (Michael Ricketts anyone?), now we sign Bothroyd on loan and folk pull their faces.
This is Pulis admitting that his other forwards (Vince, Big John) are not up to scratch. I'm pleased that he seems to be being realistic.

Who had heard of a certain Beast 'Parkin' last season when he suddenly appeared from Hull reserves and did so well that we were all gutted when they recalled him ?!
OK - forget Parkin this season but you get where I am coming from.

Oh and Bothroyd can actually put the ball in the net too.

My impression of him from the bits and pieces I've seen of him (could be well off the mark) is that he's about as far off a Mama-type as you can get.
Which is weird, as you would have expected him to bring in a big mauler if Mama was out for a while.
I don't know if he can make a fist of being a targetman, but he seems to have bucketloads of natural ability.

I trust, TP! Not made many mistakes yet with his signings. Well, just look where we are.

FM is right, anyone who thinks we've signed a Mama clone clearly hasn't seen a lot of Bothroyd.
He'll give us something very different and actually something we've been crying out for - pace. He can actually do a good job out wide as well unlike Cresswell and is a player who likes to run the channels anyway.
I'd say we undoubtedly will have to change the way we play if we went with him and Fuller as a front two (which I'm not sure we'll do) but it's a bloody exciting thought. He has pace, skill and power and, without being a goal machine, is infinitely more likely to score than Sidibe.

its true jay is 6ft 3 but fuller is of equal size and build and is crap in the air. about as close to fuller as we can get on our budget at this time of the season.

Bayern. I didn't say TP hadn't made ANY mistakes, I said he hasn't made MANY. It does seem however, that some on this board are waiting to croticise before a signed player has kicked a ball for us. It still remains a fact we are where we are, laregly because of the players TP has brought in and the way he playes them, or would you dispute that?

If we suddenly tried to play completely differently and lost, there'd be plenty of people complaining about either the poor decision to change, or the inability to move beyond plan A successfully. I've been a critic of Pulis in the past, but i'm struggling to see what it is that fans want. We are second in the league and its mid-March. We have scored rucks of goals. The football has improved generally. For fucks sake.

Maybe Tony's ahead of us all agin. It gives Fuller a kick up the arse and tells him there's someone who can do his job, the same with Cressie and provides cover if/when Ric gets suspended.
I wonder if Bothroyd will be on the bench tomorrow, and this Mama injury is a bit of a smokescreen to muddle Boothroyd's preparation. Wouldn't be surprised to see Mama on the pitch at 3 O'clock tomorrow.
