Because we have come a long way in such a short space of time this has become un-noticable and because of this after seeing our team sitting comfortably in midtable for a second succesive season these are the very same fans who believe things can only get better whilst becoming both easier and quicker to progress even further. Not ony that but they believe we can just simply replace our manager with someone who can just waltz into the club, play the system that suits us all with both attractive easy on the eye football whilst moving us forward in an instance. It doesn't work like that and it's worth remembering where we have come from whilst not losing sight of the fact that where we want to go will not be achieved over night. We aint just an hoofball team , infact we knock it around well too to which even that is improving gradually as well.
Both Charlton Athletic and Alan Curbishley springs to mind upon reading some of the drivel which gets posted on here because they go on as though they know best.
Immensley proud of every one connected with our team for what has been achieved thus far.
Go oarnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Stoke

wow...what an original thread, not seen one of these type of wrist slapping threads for...ooh....an hour I actually agree with the point, but we have more threads berating those who have converse opinions to the 'majority' than we actually do moaners...just an observation

Tazi - you said 'it's worth remembering where we have come from'. I do remember. When I started supporting Stoke, we were in the top division, challenging for the title and the cups - and playing in Europe. Like lots of us, I've never stopped supporting Stoke, even through the dark days. Now we're back in the top league, I want us to keep improving year on year, so that we don't have to go back to the shit leagues that we've all had to suffer for the last 20 odd years. I would imagine that every single one of us wants the same - we've just got different views of how its going to be achieved.
You also said 'Because we have come a long way in such a short space of time' - 23 years is not a short space of time

Came a long way in the last 3 years because the previous twenty were pretty much non existent and that was the meaning of the thread.
Some folk just get ahead of themelves and believe we would easily make the next step if TP was replaced.
Edit - You say we've got different views on how it's going to be achieved.
I say it's fine to have different views on how it might/could be achieved but for certain posters for them then to suggest that TP needs to be replaced simply because they say HOW it's GOING to be achieved all's i can say is thank fuck they aint steering the ship, mind you though upon having second thoughts they do make it sound a piece of piss so maybe i'm being a tad harsh..... ;D ;D

the first 15 or so words of this thread completely lose me !! last time i checked , it has taken some 25 plus years to get where we are today, hardly a short time for the REAL long suffering Stoke fans.

Nothing is easy in football. And TP won't be with us forever, neither will Coates. I would imagine they will both have replacements within the next 5 years or so. IF an opportunity comes up to get a managerial replacement earlier, we should consider it.

This is a perfectly valid point.
It's easy to criticise after one game which didn't go our way. One of those days, it happens.
But the speed of our development is staggering. If we pass 45 points we will be only the second club in Premier League history to do better in the second season than in the first. We suffered a fairly unexpected defeat on Saturday - I sat there and didn't see it coming after 80 minutes! But in general, we are still developing. The curve is definitely still upward.
I try to give this board a miss after a loss, because people get so irrational. The whole professional staff at SCFC are doing a great job. From Peter Coates down, everybody is working hard, and enjoying great success. We are one of only 3 debt free clubs in the league. Nearly every game is a sell out. We have sensible wages, and generally haven't blown a lot of money on players. We have better strength in depth. We have never looked like relegation material this season. Looking at the facts, there isn't much to moan about.
Being objective, we probably haven't scored enough goals, and we may have lost a bit of our intensity at home. But we share that with the players. The Brit is not as hostile as it was last season.
The irony of Saturday is that we played some really good stuff first half. Tuncay playing backheels down the channel for Lawrence. Kitson took his goal really well. There were cries of Ole from the crowd as we knocked it around. We probably had a greater share of possession and territory than normal. But we didn't create much.
Second half we weren't as pretty, but we made 3 real chances. It's a funny old game...
We're not world beaters when we win, and we don't become a crap team when we lose. As Tony said, we've got to take it on the chin and move on.
Cheer up everyone, and enjoy it!
