Southampton have handed a trial to former England striker Michael Ricketts. Ricketts is looking for a new club after being released by Oldham in January. The 29-year-old has struggled to recapture his best form in recent seasons, but Saints boss Nigel Pearson is ready to offer Ricketts the chance to win a move to St Mary's. "It can never hurt to have a look at players and, with Michael's record, I felt he was someone worth looking at," Pearson told the club's official website. "He is a free agent so we invited him down so we can have a look at him in training. He is here for the week and we will see how it goes."

His record? He's done fuck all for six years! You might as well look at Bob Monkhouse's record, and he's a) not a footballer and b) dead.
Seems a long time ago since Mr. Pearson was the touchline bollocker in chief at the Brit, barking out Gudjon's orders.
