A poke in the left eye or one in the right eye?
It's not even an option is it? Matteo's not going to be fit enough to play any real part in our season and even if he does it'll be from the bench if we're holding on to a lead.
When Whelan's suspension is over he'll come back into the team alongside Rory Delap, and, injury or suspension permitting, that'll be our central midfield for the rest of the season.

Neither. When we signed Salif I believed we should build the midfield around him, based on his contribution last year. Not so, but with a pre-season this could be different. Matteo will not be match-fit in time for the end of this season (or possibly ever!). At the moment though we definitely cannot afford to carry Salif. We need to start playing players in their best positions, or putting them on the bench. Pugh left-mid in competion with Gally; Griff at left back (with Wilko back in); Cresswell up front or on bench. Also, it's time to give Mama a rest as he's looking 'tired'. We need to field players who can handle the mental pressure, and who are on top of their game. (That's the reason for Simmo being dropped). Burnley played OK today and were encouraged by an excellent noisy following. (We need to hide away fans in a corner somewhere and not give them the whole of the South Stand to spread out in). First choice midfield should be Lawro, Whelan, Delap, Pugh.

SIOCH: That is the sign of an unfit player.

pugh aint a left winger , hes ready proved that, a back up central midfield player ...
The midfield is crying out for gallagher on the left, but I can't see tone changing in. Same goes for wilko and dicko in the full back positions...
