The special effects are poor but there is a great line up of stars and the story line is ace.

A great line-up indeed, particularly Brad Pitt as Jimmy Greenhoff, Laurence Olivier as Peter Dobing, Richard Wilson as George Eastham and a great cameo by Marlon Brando as Tony Waddington.

My claim to fame - I was one of the extras used in the crowd scenes. I don’t know if I made the final cut.

ZZZZ why would you want to buy a dvd of something that happened in 1972. May as well get England winning the world cup, it was only 6 years earlier. It was more of a mickey mouse cup back then than it is now as well. No europe for the winner. What an achievment

Always banging on about this "success"
Swindon have won it, Oxford won it more recently than you and they both dont bang on about it all the time.
I wouldnt mind seeing proof that you got into europe through this cup. I was pretty sure they didnt introduce that until the 80s when the big clubs took over the winning.

Stoke qualified for the UEFA Cup by winning the League Cup, we played and lost to Kaiserslautern in the 1972/73 season.
Remind me, when was Fail's last foray into European Competition?

Swindon & oxford fans, quite rightly,do indeed 'bang on' about their League Cup wins
- imho the League Cup didnt become Mickey Mouse until the 90's when Man Utd (& then others) started (were allowed to...) field weakend sides.
as for Vale well see todays Sentinel for harping about past glories, yes Spurs 88 Cup win again.
its all relative but ALL clubs who arnt sweeping all before them 'bang on' about past sucess's

Shame on you Mr Frith What about their magnificent performance v Genoa at Wembley?? Sure there's an extended DVD to fit in all of Genoa's goals knocking around- could be a DVD box set ;D 'Things are looking up for PVFC at the mo' Of couse they are- just to let you know- you don't get into Europe by coming bottom of league 1 in case you don't know the rules still.

That was in an era when we were the superior team in the potteries.
what comes around and all that

You reached the Anglo Italian Final in 1995/96. Do you actually need reminding that Stoke City finished fourth at this level that season and reached the play offs under Lou Macari?
And you're not still harping on about a period when Fail were the so-called top dogs of the Potteries are you?
Isn't that all the past? Isn't it against your rules to reminisce about better times?

Not against my rules as long as it was when you were alive and in attendance. I wouldnt harp on about a trophy we won before I was born or pledged alliegiance to my team. I certainly wouldnt harp on about a trophy we won 36 years ago. you'd have to be at least 46 to remember that and from what I've read on here most of you seem like your still at school (well, spelling and general intelligence would suggest that) hence you wouldn't remember it.
Its like celebrating the war, I wasn't there so I'm not going to celebrate it even though my team won

Well Stoke City can actually boast having had some of the game's most famous players appearing for them. Do you really expect our fans not to talk with pride about the likes of Stanley Matthews or Gordon Banks, even though a large number of our supporters weren't born when they appeared for the club?
For heaven's sake, there's a bloody beer in production in memory of Roy Sproson, Vale's favourite son. Famous players and great times are there to be remembered by fans of all clubs.
If you're so shallow not to appreciate the history of your club - however pathetic - then that's your problem. Kindly leave us in peace to talk about ours.

I'm 46 and I was there.
It WAS a big deal then
It WAS worth winning
It DID get us into Europe (proper Europe), which was also like a dream.
It IS worth remembering, even 36 years later.
Very few things in life are that special and worth remembering forever.
The 4th March 1972 was one of them.
