One of our main problems is that the 2 central midfielders sit too deep. When we are defending and the ball is knocked out they are still on the 18 yard line. Neither of them come out and close down the other forward/midfielder and give them time and space to pass or shoot.
On the other hand, maybe it's down to fitness issues, but nobody picks up the runners from midfield. Leigertwood took advantage of this issue twice on Sunday, and both issues need addressing or we will continue to leak more and more goals.
BUT, the thing which does my head in is the constant backing off of players running with the ball. The players must be told to do this, beecause I can't beleive for 1 minute that a player with aggression and enthusiasm like Andy Wilkinson would run 30 yards towards his own goal without tackling the player with the ball running towards him. All the players do it apart from Dicko, and QPR's 3rd goal was down to this. Infact many of the goals we have conceded are down to this. It needs addressing or we won't go up.
Thoughts...

One defender who is always held in high esteem, is a certain Gary Neville, he must be the fastest player at the backward sprintin history lol. He would run right through his own net.

also Griffin and Cort get caught the wrong side of the attacker.
Griffin especially leaves the right winger/foward in acres of space. This was plain to see on Match of the Day when Derby kept getting thrashed and is still noticeable.

The second goal was calamitous. Griffin's aerial challenge was poor, but it wasn't helped by Cort deciding to lumber in as well, leaving the middle wide open. In terms of tracking back, we missed Delap.

We either need a commanding keeper or a commanding centre half, no communication between the 3 at the moment at all, if we keep Simonsen in goal then we definitely need a leader at the back because my heart sinks whenever he is relied upon with the ball up in the air and i can't see either Cort or Shawcross being the voice at the back. Also agree that the midfield always drop off till they're part of the back line inviting the oncoming midfielder to shoot, definitely won't get automatic promotion unless this is sorted.

Bring in Wilko for Griff and Dicko for Pugh.Sorted they don't fanny about but do the basics very well. Wilko would never have shown Vine the inside on sunday and he proved when he came on what a good defender he is.

RRB,
Totally disagree.
The problems on Sunday were the result of our midfield not sitting deep enough. If anything, Pulis' recent change to a more attacking midfield, has proved to be our downfall.
I have always been dubious about the defensive qualities of Shawcross and Cort as they were always covered by the deep midfield formation. You can also include Diao in this as he seems to prefer sitting in front of a packed defence where he isn't left in the open.
Now that the midfield are moving forward more often the defence is more open to attacking breaks and the lack of pace and positional sense is showing. You cannot expect the midfield to push forward at pace and return to cover the defence for 90 minutes.
I reckon that Pulis is about to return to his much loved (and incredibly dull to watch) two lines of four at the back and the beloved hoof to Sidibe and Fuller.
If anything, Pulis is proving to me that he may not be able to change his style as easily as some people think.
