When the mines shut down around Stoke,a lot of the miners looked for work in the still open Welsh mines.Delilah was an unofficial anthem sung in the Welsh mines. When the Stoke miners came back to Stoke, they adopted this song and sung it on the terraces.

Because Anton Booth (TJ) was pissed at Bradford and started singing Tom Jones tunes. 1st one was "Its not unusual" which was difficult to join in on. 2nd was "Delilah' which was an instant hit and it blossomed from there . There was also the song about the paki shop which was amusing but was only good for Bradford, Burnley and Oldham. Would never have worked at Wycombe or Oxford
