Following our last two results do you still think we will achieve automatic promotion or has the bubble burst..? As usual I'll start.... Yes. (But we need to play two goalscorers up front....

Sorry fellow Stokies, we're letting FAR too many goals in
we've all bigged up Cort & Shawcross but they aren't as good as we think

it all hangs on the next few games,
if we can halt this slide, beat burnley and get a result down at watford, i think we have every chance

Heart says auto. Head says playoffs. Don't think Pulis will EVER concede that Gally is a better option than Mama.

If Gally starts our next few matches then yes, if not then no.

O.k... Honest opinions throughout....
What about the next two games..?
I think on our present form 3pts would be good...
What about you>?

To be honest i thought we would get at least a point at Preston and nowt at qpr so am not that down hearted at the mo,the next two games could make or break our season and would be over the moon with 4pts.

Honest opinion, no. We concede far too many really sloppy goals and actually have one of the worst defensive records in the Championship. I said it while we were winning, realistically we can't expect to be able to score three goals every game and that sooner or later we'll go through a drier patch in front of goal and unless we can tighten up at the back it's going to start costing us. Unfortunately the chickens have come home to roost and that time is now Our only hope now for automatic in my opinion is if Pulis drops Cort NOW (I think he's a huge defensive liability, backs off too much doesn't keep tight to his man and the number of goals his presence in the team costs outweighs the goals he scores) and Riggott comes in and instantly makes a huge difference. Also Griffin needs to be switched to left back, with Wilko or possibly even Delap going to right back. Pugh needs to be dropped, or moved to central midfield if Delap drops into right back. Unfortunately though, I can't see Pulis having the balls to drop a £1.2m player

As much as i would love us to go up i can honestly say that we wont.We will get in the play-offs and fuck it up.

The thought of the play-offs is a definate no no...
We should concentrate on automatic promotion and nothing else. The whole side is under performing at the moment .....Pulis needs to shake them up a bit.

gotta agree with you mumf the defence was shocking yet again and pulis really needs to give them a good kick up the arse.

A CONVINCING win on Saturday and a good point at Watford, Yes

Post by troj on Mar 3, 2008 10:59:56 GMT
Not sure at the mo' - Saturday is a must win (from a confidence perspective). If we don't win I think we'll have major probs next week Norwich and Watford.
Look at it like this, and yes I know its negative...but if we did lose Saturday there's every chance we'd lose the next two as well .... or put it more succinctly lose five on the trot .....:-(
However, knowing Stoke we'll lose Saturday and then go and beat Norwich and Watford.

When this question was asked just after we hit top spot, I said play-offs as we were leaking too many soft goals and it would eventually catch up with us.
Two weeks on, we are still doing so and it has caught up with us: ergo, play-offs.
We need 7/8 wins out of 10 to get into the top two IMHO - I'd love us to do so, but just can't see it on present form.

Yes, we can still achieve promotion either automatic or via the play-off's, but we have simply got to find a way of stopping the hemmoraging of goals and the best way to do that is stop playing a midfielder (Pugh) at full back, play BOTH Wilkinson and Dickenson in the full back positions (those lads would die for the cause), give Leon of Ryan a rest and bring in Riggott. Delap will surely take over from Salif for the forseeable future AND mamma needs to be sidelined to be replaced by Gally or Nugent if we do sign him.
My team would be - Simmo, Wilkinson, Shawcross or Cort, Riggott, Dickenson, Lawrence, Whelen, Delap, Pugh, Fuller, Gally or Nugent.

not a chance UNLESS we sort the defence out
we need dicko or griffin at left back and wilko at right back - did someone mention on here that riggots can play right back?
offensively we have enough in the locker to compete

No for me though I always adopt the old adage of 'Prepare for the worst, hope for the best' with Stoke. We seem to lack a bit of character in the team at the moment, lack the wise old head who's been there, done it and seen it all before.
Truly hope Im wrong
