Just listening to some old s 70s sounds and got thinking about Stoke in the 70s when i only missed games if the old bill had "felt me collar" anyway got searchin tnet and and found that we played 4 games in 9 days ( fergie would love this ) early to mid 70s, 28th march drew 2-2 away at West Ham, 29th march drew 1-1 away at Arsenal, 31st march beat Liverpool 2-0 at home then 5 days later beat Chelsea 3-0 at home, what a team we had then, and hopefully will have again one day. Happy days

At the risk of sounding a bit "jumpers for goalposts", I also miss the atmosphere of those heady days of butchers coats and police horses! Now that I'm rapidly approaching half a century I do appreciate being able to park me arse for most of the game, but it's just not the same when we score now. A goal celebration lasted a lot longer back then, and you found yourself jumping up and down hugging complete strangers.
Still, top of the league eh!!! ;D 'kinell!!!!!

Spot on, Welcome to the sanitized world of 21st century football. Terracing should be brought back. One end behind the goal home support only £10 adults £5 kids, bring the game back to it's core support.

A goal celebration lasted a lot longer back then, and you found yourself jumping up and down hugging complete strangers. Try telling that to the forty-something six foot skinhead who grabbed me when Fuller made it 4-2 at Wolves

My first game at the Vic was when we drubbed Man City 4-0. Mick Pejic ripped Dennis Tueart's shirt in a tackle, whereupon Tueart removed his shirt and threw it at Pejic! On the way to the game some Man City twats came up to me and my mate posing as Stokies. I was soaking up the bonhomie of it all when suddenly my mate was standing there with a bloody nose and no silky! Bastards!

Used to stand in the Boothen Paddock with my Dad and my mates at the Vic, close to the tunnel. There were blokes of all ages but it was great to see them all every other week. The banter was top class.
It was so close to the pitch that you felt part of the game and if the officials had a bad game you could let em know.
Many a linesman has run the gauntlet down there and sometimes the language was x rated even for a footy ground.
Also when you look at the photos of the Boothen for the last game against Brazil, its easy to forget how bloody packed the ground was at times

nice one sidders, i remember that game as if it were yesterday, Man city fan tried to take my mates scarf off him in the open end,and ended up fighting then getting escorted to the boothen end by the police, then watching it on MOTD to see if we could spot ourselves, dont think we could get in the boothen as we were under 16 and it was 10p cheaper in the open end.

Cheers Sidders! It was indeed that very game! Made my day that did! Hence some karma coming your way!
While we're on the subject of the muddy old days, anyone remember that "proffesional foul" by Dennis Smith? It was actually a rugby tackle on a lone striker heading goalwards, but I can't remember who we were playing.
