CITY TABLE TALK Fri 29 Feb 2008
With Cardiff currently sitting in thirteenth spot in the Championship table we will be hoping that we can get a result at the weekend and gain on the teams above them in the league.
Out of our 33 games so far this season, 44 points have been collected. We are one of a few teams that have played a match less - something that we will hope is an advantage as we currently sit two points clear of Blackpool, the next team in the table. Looking above, City have also played a match less than the two teams directly above them in 11th and 12th place. Norwich (12th) are at home to Blackpool, and Crystal Palace (11th) are going to be playing at Preston. Both Norwich and Crystal Palace will be expecting a win from these games, but if one or both of them slip up and Cardiff get a win against Leicester you could see Cardiff leapfrog the two up to 11th place.
If this were to happen it could eventually see Cardiff catapult up the table and close to the four available playoff places. In fact, we will also be hoping that Wolves in tenth lose to Colchester, as the best case scenario could see us take up tenth place at the end of the day.
Although Crystal Palace will hope to beat the close to relegation zone Preston, they will still find Preston a strong team to face. The Lilywhites have been struggling this season and will be fighting for their league survival. They will also take a lot from their last game which was at home to Stoke, the Championship leaders. The game which saw many yellow cards also saw the leaders beaten by two goals the team in 21st spot in the table.
If Cardiff did lose their vital weekend clash with Leicester, the worst that could happen is that we could lose one place and that would only be if Norwich are beaten by Blackpool. If Blackpool win on Saturday they would only go one point in front.
