Thought Whitehead had a good game on Saturday, although I still think we can get better.
Thought Diao was awful, Faye had a shocking 1st half (but was this due to our lack of midfield control?)
Delap, well we all know he's not a wide man - and we don't appear to have many other options.
Thought the ref was crap, why is Mike Dean allowed to ref at this level?

It was a cracking back-pass from the halfway line which lead to our 1st goal

I thought Whitehead was by far the best of our trio of central midfielders. Delap and Diao both had poor games. My central midfield pair AT THE MOMENT would be Whitehead and Whelan but I hope for at least one more creative central midfielder in January.

imho you will be hoping till the end of time for TP to be signing an out & out playmaker to play in the middle of his midfield.

Agree with that partnership at the minute, although it also shows how badly we need to strengthen in that area in january.

Perhaps, he's a slow starter (4 months is a little extreme but hey, better late than never!) and we will see a better Whitehead given a decent partner in the middle who plays with him week in week out?

But, as an example, Arismendi is a defensive midfielder but his passing (from what I have seen of him) is a class above anything else we have. Hopefully Arismendi will get into the side or, failing that, we will sign another player with the same quiality of passing.

He got on the ball a lot more and also looked to get forward (but not as much as against Blackburn). He's improving and if thats happening then you can't get on his back really.

yes Arismendi passes the ball well that true.
thats as creative as we are going to get & tbh if he can get to grips with our game & if he has setlled or can settle then next season it would be good to see him in the side
supect TP sees him as Diao's succesor.
Hackett (& maybe mr views?) has intimated Diego may be off?
Hacketts record is....mixed though.
as for Whitehead the No 1problem (& there are others!) I have with him is the fact that he makes very few tackles. He covers more ground than anyone & he's usually in position,he closes players down BUT he doesnt win the ball. factor in his non-prem standard passing, his woeful goals record, his lame heading & we have a poor player.
If he can start winning the ball more then he could be useful (if not £4.5m useful).

Totally agree that Whitehead had a good game, one of his best yet. Think he would of done better with Whelan with him aswell.

Certainly the best I've seen from him. For me Whelan and Delap is still our strongest central midfield 2, but still. He also has a funny shaped face, which is a plus for me.

He'll never set the world alight and I'm still not convinced we needed to buy him, but fair's fair, he definitely had his best game yet for us at the weekend by a long way.
He's a Stoke player, he is trying his best, the manager keeps picking him, so we need to give him some encouragement. If he plays better because of it, our club benefits surely? We can discuss his merits on here forever, but at the game let's give the lad a boost!

I think that given time, Dean Whitehead will prove to be a good signing for us, i was one of his major doubters when we signed him and the subsequent first 10 or so games he played for us, but he looks like he's learning to play the role Pulis envisions for his two centre midfielders, and i think he will only get better.
I just wish Whelan could start alongside him, at least when we play at home!!

I think that some fans had already decided to make him this season's whipping boy before he'd even put on a Stoke shirt, perhaps if some of the confidence sapping shit generally posted about him on here stopped, then his game might improve even faster and we could find that TP was right all along. Come on Deano!
