Would be a shame!
[Marton Fulop's Stoke City career could be over before it has even started as preparations ahead of tonight's clash at Preston were thrown into 11th-hour confusion.
Sunderland are understood to be pondering a recall for the giant Hungarian goalkeeper following an injury to Darren Ward on Wearside.
That, in turn, left Stoke manager Tony Pulis pondering a recall of Russell Hoult from his loan spell at Notts County to provide back-up to Steve Simonsen.
Fulop, who only joined on loan last Friday, was hoping to challenge Simonsen for his number one berth at Preston this evening.
But Pulis revealed: "We are waiting to hear from Sunderland, but there is a chance they will take him back because they need cover in goal.
"Of course it's a blow if they do because he's a keeper we rate. This was a terrific chance to watch him at close quarters over the next few months."
Pulis has ordered his table-toppers to hit overdrive at Deepdale tonight (7.45pm kick-off) and not sit admiring the view from the head of the Coca-Cola Championship table.
Pulis is demanding full speed ahead for a Stoke side which will burst four points clear at the top if they can rattle off a sixth straight win.
"We are in a fantastic position," he admitted, "and now is the time to put our foot on the pedal and really crack on.
"We've got the vehicle moving and it's all about pushing it on now. We can't take our foot off the pedal and just drift on.
"The players have done really well over the last 34 games and now we just want them to do it over the last 12.
"I don't care how they do it, as long as we win. Whether it's 1-0, 4-3 or 5-4 doesn't matter ... as long as we score one more than the opposition."
And he repeated his wish for two more players to strengthen a squad potentially short in defence and attack in the coming weeks.
"Yes, we could do with two more additions. Hopefully that would give everybody a lift and drive us forward again," he said.
"It isn't just about the 11 on the pitch, but about the whole squad - and the whole squad being 110 per cent behind those out there."
Danny Pugh returns from suspension to challenge Carl Dickinson at left-back as City face a Preston outfit desperate to clamber out of the bottom three.
"We must be at full pelt every game we play because teams will want to knock us off our perch," warned Pulis.
"Preston are a decent side and I'm surprised they are down there.
"They've just had a great draw at Watford and should have knocked Portsmouth out of the FA Cup.
"Alan Irvine has made them a lot tighter and more organised since coming in as manager earlier this season.
"They've got a lot of experience ... and in Paul McKenna they have as good a midfielder as you get in this league."
STOKE'S reserves entertain Nottingham Forest at Newcastle Town tomorrow (2pm).

Don't you normally get a 28-day window when no recall's possible?
Maybe Sunderland have put a special clause in to allow a recall at any stage of the loan?
A bit of a pain in the arse if they recall him.

Fuller,
I'm pretty shure the no re-call rule only applys to long term loans (a season loan) where they cant be re called in x amount of time, i tihnk it's until the next transfer window.
Like shawcross, he wouldnt have been able to have been re called until January

It does seem that there's a 28-day no recall rule on emergency loans? Maybe it can be overridden by express consent of the loaning club?
Or maybe it's a gentlemen's agreement thast the loan was based on?
Emergency loans can be taken out at any time between Friday 8 February and 5pm on March 27, 2008 and can only be used by Football League clubs loaning players in from other clubs in England, including those from the Premier League. International switches are not allowed including Scotland and Ireland.
Players can be signed for a maximum period of 93 days on such loans.
Players on emergency loan can be recalled by their own clubs after 28 days have expired, but not before.
Only five loan players (whether standard or emergency) can be named on the team sheet for any one game and no more than four players can be loaned from one club to another in any one season.
Emergency loan signings can be made up to three hours before a league game.

It seems to have been confirmed by the Sentinel that he's definitely gone. I have a vague recollection of a 24 hour recall at the time he signed, not sure where I read it.
Hopefully Ward's injury isn't too bad and we can get Fulop back soon, Ward has been out injured until very recently hasn't he? Not sure why.
Just hope this has given Simmo a spur, and hasn't shaken his confidence.

Marton Fulop's Stoke City career is over before it has even started after Sunderland today recalled the giant Hungarian goalkeeper following an injury to their second choice stopper, Darren Ward.
Fulop, who only joined City on loan last Friday, was hoping to challenge Steve Simonsen for his number one shirt when the Potters faced Preston at Deepadale this evening.
But Pulis revealed: "Sunderland have called him back and there's nothing we can do about it."

gutted! Fulop was quality cover!
Simmo will be a relieved man, but lets hope he can still up his game now he realises he's not going to be untouchable if we get another loaned keeper in!

Unbelievable, thank God simmo is still playing ok at the moment, but I think the fact his place is under threat will no doubt inject some more adrenalin into to his form,

Not good at all - it was a very good move by TP to be fair.
TP needs to send Ward some grapes & a get well card pronto (he's probably got a blister or something the big wuss).
couple of things arising:
yes, hopefully, Simmo has taken it the right way - as an almighty kick up the arris (but at the end of the day if he's a ditherer on crosses &, at his age, he's not likely to change now is he?)
(Mind you, Simmo was pants last year at Deepdale i thought and dithering on at least one [?] cross cost us. Thankfully, he was surpassed in "pantsness" by Nash on the day. ;D)
TP is right also: McKenna is a very good player on his day and i thought he undid us last time almost on his own - mind you he wasn't playing against Whelan or Delap or even Salif last time either. ;D)
1- 3: Fuller / Shaw x / Gally (?)

"Yes, we could do with two more additions. Hopefully that would give everybody a lift and drive us forward again," he said.
He still seems to be looking for 2 more loans, in addition to the goalkeeper position then?

I don't suppose we could go cap in hand to Sir Alex and ask if we could borrow Ben Forster for the rest of the season? Is he fit yet? Certainly it would be an interesting loan.
