Nothing unexpected in the local elections really - Tories are going to be booted out. No great love for Labour either though (unlike 1997), it'll be a win by default election - anti Tory rather than pro Labour. Labour were expected to make much more gains than they have so far. Just under 2 out of 3 torie seats lost have went to parties other than labour so far. Still plenty of time for things to change. So labour being up (currently) 132 seats, and the tories down by 195, with potentially fewer overall counsellors than the lib dems of those up for election, in other words, the tories may finish third overall, and Labour winning one of the most brexity constituencies in a byelection is not a good night for Labour!?!? Corbyn would have snapped your hand off for success like that! Labour have gained, so far, 8 councils, 4 from the tories and 4 from NOC. Yet people don’t apparently don’t like them and aren’t voting for them!?!?

There are lots of results to come, but a very bad night for the tories. Labour, Greens and Lib Dems very much on the up. Excellent.

Some areas of every city are unsafe, London is no exception to that rule. But it is not true to say London is some hotspot of crime above everywhere else in the UK. The stats don’t show that. People do debate and back them up though, thats the point, some people just don’t want to listen, and have this attitude of knowing better all the time. It just becomes a pointless exercise of flinging stats to suit whatever point you’re trying to make (both sides) You provided a reasonable answer to me yesterday, but again that’s just an opinion. And I amongst others have my opinion…I don’t see how certain posters “opinions” are supposed to be treated as facts, where other posters opinions aren’t. You openly admit the media have an agenda on London, to me that sounds ridiculous, and if it was reversed so would you There is no question there is an agenda! The last two labour leaders have been criticised for being part of the Metropolitan Elite from Islington. Sunak raises it, Johnson raised it, May raised it. The media raise it. Lefty London lawyers is a commonly used phrase. Are you seriously saying there isn’t a negative view in the rest of the country about so called London elites? But turning back to the facts, crime as a whole in London generally isn’t that high compared with the rest of the country. Knife crime here is high, but not as high as Cleveland or the West Midlands.

How about the ONS? According the Crime Survey for England and Wales, someone is actually less likely to be a victim of crime in London than they are across the country as a whole. In the capital, 14.9% of people experienced a crime either to their person or their household in the year ending September 2023, compared with 15.7% nationally. London has the third lowest anti social behaviour levels in the country. The murder rate is dropping and is lower than when johnson was mayor. The rate – roughly equivalent to 12 for every 1 million people – is far from the worst police area for homicides when compared with population. Bedfordshire, Cleveland, Merseyside, West Mercia, South Yorkshire, Humberside and Northumbria all ranked higher in 2023-24, according to ONS figures. Knife crime is high but lower than Cleveland and West Midlands. For gun crime it is behind Gloucestershire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Northamptonshire, West Yorkshire, the West Midlands, South Yorkshire and Cleveland. It has fallen significantly over the past decade. amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/feb/26/fact-check-has-sadiq-khan-really-overseen-a-surge-in-londonLondon is the best city in the world. And I have been to lots. The thing is, it always has been. I go there once every week or maximum every other and in Central London its honestly the best there is. I witnessed a guy having his phone stolen last week by them scooter gangs. There is zero deterrent in London currently and I'd love to know them stats by postcode. For instance I'd agree W1-3 is extremely safe but there is without doubt some areas you just wouldn't go to now. Some areas of every city are unsafe, London is no exception to that rule. But it is not true to say London is some hotspot of crime above everywhere else in the UK. The stats don’t show that.

I mean, he did get into a lengthy convo with Paul. He was invited to explain himself and instead made derogatory remarks about Paul. Obviously he is more than free to do that, but it undermines whatever point he was trying to get across. I am completely with Paul on this one, and I find it happens to me on occasion when I put a poster’s comment under the tiniest bit of scrutiny they get upset and make derogatory remarks rather than engage in debate. Doesn’t mean he can’t dip in and dip out when he wants to though does it? In the end it’s up to the poster to go down the route he chooses. It’s not a debating society it’s just a message board where people get the opportunity to put their view. Some people like to argue some don’t. Could it be that people want to leave a discussion because - They don’t have 2-3 hours to go to and thro with another poster. - Because they don’t like being accused of being something they’re not. - All they want is to give their view / opinion and nothing more. We have different types of posters on here. Some like to pick posts to the nth degree, search for likes etc to use as evidence like Perry Mason in a courtroom. Some like to batter a thread to death and will only be happy when they “think” they’ve won the argument. Others like to have a joke and be a bit more lighthearted. (Badger and Cranny One or two put up post then do a runner. Some like to form an alliance. Nothing wrong with any of those traits but we’re all different. I am not saying there is anything wrong with posting and then not engaging. I don’t think Paul is either. Obviously your arguments or points of view are massively undermined if you can’t debate or back then up, but this is an online forum so who cares anyway.

I doubt any survey has been, or could be done in all reality, that proved how 'accurate' or otherwise newspaper reports are, I do know for a fact that the Daily Mail make things up but that's just 'personal experience'. What can be, and has been done is a survey to gauge what percentage of the public actually 'believe' them. 76% believe the Guardian website, 47% believe the Mail website. the only people i know who read the grauniad are loaded and lefties. any body on here read it who isn't ?

Jeez, what a truly bizarre forum this has turned in to, people posting stuff and then steadfastly refusing to explain what they meant by the post, never mind even attempting to discuss it ... Maybe sometimes people just want to post their own thoughts without debating them to death. I don’t see anything wrong with that, it’s a free country and not everyone has the time to get into lengthy conversations. It’s not a debating society it’s just a message board where people can post as much or as little as they want. I mean, he did get into a lengthy convo with Paul. He was invited to explain himself and instead made derogatory remarks about Paul. Obviously he is more than free to do that, but it undermines whatever point he was trying to get across. Daniel Anjorin and Grace O'Malley-Kumar both attended Bankroft's Independent School Woodford Green I attended St Paul's Catholic Secondary Comprehensive School Woodford Green which amalgamated with St Mary's Grammar in mid 1970s to become Trinity Catholic High. It is about two miles from Bankroft's It's about as safe an area as you can find in UK Grace was killed by a crazed knife attacker in Nottingham on her way home from a Party Daniel was killed by a crazed knife attacker in Hainault on his way to school Can you see the common denominator here? Clue: It's not London I saw a special report on BBC this week that, last year I think that, there were 250 knife murders in England and Wales It's not a League Table albeit West Midlands comes out on top per Capita Address the causes of knife crime, removing knife's that can easily be replaced is pointless and there isn't enough room in our prisons in case anyone would like to suggest that. Mental Health is an issue but my guess not hugely but hugely high profile. Ely I'm sure could give us a comprehensive dissertation on how legalising some Drugs would remove the profit element and the need for turf wars. Social Media feeds Machismo in Teenagers to either carry a knife for Bravado or for self protection which often goes wrong There is nothing unique about knife crime in London other than it has a bigger Population, is the Capital so therefore gets National Media Coverage Good post. I think London and the so called metropolitan elite has received some of the ridiculous blame that used to be directed at Brussels and “unelected EU bureaucrats” pre brexit from the right leaning press for the problems in British society. It helps that there is an outspoken Muslim mayor to go after. Judging by this thread, people who don’t live in London who are generally to the right more than the left in their politics lap it up.

The pressure is being applied to civil servants, not MPs though. That’s why I said they should protest outside Parliament. My wife is my source. The fact is, she has come home and the app civil servants have which informs them of safety risks is reporting lots of problems and her colleagues have shared similar stories of what happened to my wife this morning. What is happening in Palestine is not an excuse to verbally abuse innocent people in England who are nothing to do with Israel or Palestine. My wife should not be verbally abused for being a civil servant and turning up to work. She shouldn’t be made to fell unsafe. She doesn’t have the power to influence our government in weapons sales to Israel. She is not the cause of the war. She didn’t fire rockets, kidnapp people, murder people, bomb people and neither has she ever voted for the party who are selling weapons to Israel. Israelis are also victims in this and it is a disgrace you don’t see that. There are far fewer victims in Israel than in Palestine, but that doesn’t mean the innocent people who have been murdered by Hamas deserve it. Or are you saying the 7October attack victims deserved to die/be raped? No more so than the 10s of thousands in Palestine since murdered by Israelis. Adopting your attitude of Israel = bad, Palestine = good means you are fully supportive of every rape and murder committed by Hamas on Israelis. Of course pressure is being applied to MPs. It's been mentioned every day for months with many protests outside Westminster and across the country. There are 100s of videos of MPs being challenged in public. Well if your wife works in the department of business and trade there are many videos all over the internet of the protests. I've not seen anyone being attacked or abused and I know there are many zionists desperate for that type of footage so I'm sure it will be unearthed at some stage today. Are you sure she didn't come across Gideon Falter in a disguise? I did see Israelis were victims Oggy on October 7th and expressed my sympathy. Many Americans were also victims on September 11th. But being a victim for one day doesn't make you a victim every day of the calendar year for the rest of your life. We don't talk about the palestines that died on November 1st, December 3rd, January 7th, February 19th, March 23rd every day of the year. Israelis had more deaths than palestines for a single day for the first time in a number of years so lets talk about that one date for eternity now and use it as a justification for them to murder whoever they like. Nah, I'm bored of it now. No worries Oggy I support every rape and murder committed by Hamas on Israelis because I don't mention the one day of the decade more Israelis died every time we touch on the subject. And you support every rape and murder committed by Israel for the last century because you've no interest in this subject unless it's to defend Israels actions. I have said both are victims. You are the one who has been critical of me for pointing out that some Israelis are also victims. But you have above acknowledged that what I said about Israelis being victims too to be true. Regardless, my wife should not be verbally abused for attending work. She is not at fault. It is the Treasury in charge of sanctions on other countries. If the protestors had brains they would pressure MPs at Parliament, or the Treasury, not civil servants outside DBT. How to reduce support for your cause in the general public is to protest by being threatening and abusive towards innocent people.

Fucking idiots blocking government buildings, chanting at civil servants, who feel unsafe and in fear just trying to get to work. My wife has been abused by protesters and has been unable to get to work. Perhaps this shouldn’t be on the Israel thread, but it is pro-Palestine protesters. Why don’t these idiots target politicians and people with power, rather than civil servants, who, ironically, are under persistent attack and criticism from the same government the protesters are protesting against. In the past, civil servants have been locked in government buildings due to protests because they have been advised it would be dangerous to leave. It means children aren’t picked up from childcare. It means people can’t return safely to their home. Protest is fine. But do it in Parliament Square. Don’t direct abuse towards innocent members of the public. Don’t make completely innocent people feel unsafe in going about their business. 10s of thousands of people are dying oggy. Your wife isn't the victim. Your wife is inconvenienced. Do you have a source or videos? As you've previously told us on here how Israel is the victim based on the experience of your friends living in Israel. So I'd like to see these civil servants being attacked by protestors. I'd suggest joining the protests and putting pressure on your MP on the situation. There'd be no protests if there was no genocide. I'm sure the 10s of thousands of dead people would rather a protest outside their office than to be in an early grave. The pressure is being applied to civil servants, not MPs though. That’s why I said they should protest outside Parliament. My wife is my source. I guess you wouldn’t want to live in the places where there is more violent crime per capita in this country either. London isn’t even in the top 10. You could go back and forth linking different “top 10” forever.. I can’t be arsed. This is a thread about London, if you want to create one for other cities that’s fine, il have a look at it. Just because you don’t like posters showing a concern with violent crime in London, that isn’t my problem. London gets mentioned a lot because it’s a destination people go to do a bit of sightseeing etc, me included. I go off what I’m seeing in the news, and it concerns me, no more no less Well, be reassured from someone who lives here, the press are making a point of highlighting crime in London. Knife crime has increased which is worrying (but much less than in other areas of the country) but, generally speaking, crime per person is not high in London compared with the rest of the country, and certainly not something anyone I know who loves in London experiences regularly.

And you think every gang related incidents going to be reported? Those sort of figures mean nothing as the majority of gang related incidents will be called in by third parties. Unless there’s a serious injury, death or is discovered by police the majority of violent incidents go unreported. Tip of the iceberg. Doesn't that go for more or less everywhere if that's the case? No it is only in London that crimes are unreported and that is Khan’s personal fault too!

I guess you wouldn’t want to live in the places where there is more violent crime per capita in this country either. London isn’t even in the top 10. The issue with London is that because it’s so huge the very wealthy areas dilute the figures of the city as a whole but there are a number of very dangerous areas that get swallowed up by the figures of the nicer parts. If you look at the top 10 they hammer Blackpool which I believe is the most dangerous place to live in the U.K. www.churchillsupportservices.com/resources/news-insights/top-15-most-dangerous-areas-in-london/#:~:text=Covering%20much%20of%20London's%20traditional,128.9%20crimes%20per%201000%20residents. I imagine it is only particular parts of any city which are dangerous. I bet those areas are more deprived, with more unemployment, more mental health issues, more single parents etc. The police have a massive part to play in reducing and fighting crime. So does dealing with the route cause which is usually hopelessness, destitution, desperation, mental health, addiction etc. All of those are going up because we have a government focused on making the super rich richer and fucking the rest of us. Tackle inequality and improve access to public services in health and addiction and training etc and you will reduce crime far more effectively than increasing police powers.

For those who want more police powers, more police etc because they think that will help stop violent crime, why do they also blame Khan? Khan is powerless to increase police powers and he has increased the number of officers (by 1800 in London) but he is limited by budget. Surely the Home Secretary is more responsible as the HS has the power to actually change the things you lot say are the cause of the increase in knife crime in London.

All the help for mental illnesses have been taken away in the 14 years of government austerity.People need to take a good hard look at thmeselves, take a step back and just think about the cosequences of their decisions/voting in politics, because as much as people think it doesnt matter ,it most certainly does. All to save the bankers, all those years ago. Yet it was a labour govt of 10 plus years that was incumbent when the 2008 financial crash happened. And it was Gordon Brown who saved the bankers arses. Labour regulated the banks. The tories were fuming and wanted no regulations. The lib dems were the only party to call on tougher regulations. The crash would have been worse with fewer protective regulations had the tories been in charge.

Having said that imagine if a group of students flying the Cross of St George flag hounded out someone they disagreed with, instead of those with The Palestinian Flag did, fuck me, Huddy and Prestwich would have exploded. Absolutely fuck all, other than an analogy for the beef between Oggy and Badger over the state of left wing comedy in the UK. Forgive me, I'm reaching. Is it that sum before or after tax? Before. And Sweden still have high taxes. After income tax from labour it's £4638. We have high Value added tax also, as soon as you spend anything. I suspect that is below the average take home salary of league 2 players.

£7943 that's what a Swedish pro footballer earns on average per month in Sweden's highest division called Allsvenskan. They also have two training session per day, match day excluded. How much is in the PL? Are the levels alright? Too much of a gap between League Two, League One, Championship and the PL? 🇸🇪🤠🏴 Is it that sum before or after tax?
