When around 40% of the our 'supporters' are glory-hunting scrotums, what can we expect? -------------------------------- Worth remembering that the 40 percenters help pay for the quality NOW affordable on the pitch. See what would happen if you went back to 15000+ gates in the prem. And see what type of quality player would be eager to sign for a club with a half empty stadium. The 40% have their worth in more ways than one. Being in the Premiership means that gate receipts are actually a fraction of what the club makes (20%?). When we needed the 'new fans' the most was when we were in League 1, playing 5-3-2 with Nicky Mohan at centre-half and there was no SKY money to be had.

Okay, we've had a bad result, let's direct all of our anger at the people who hand over their hard-earned cash to pay the wages at the Britannia Stadium.
Ho-hum.

It was always not goining to be as good because the extra 10,000 who have appeared from nowhere now expect us to win our home games because that is what they mainly seen last season

It dunna matter whether he's a true fan or not it's his opinion ffs. I really wonder at times why some people visit this board if they can't tolerate people having different opinions from those of their own.

You lot really as thick as the proverbial pig shit aren't you! Support yesterday - pathetic! You're just a bunch of inbred, shirt lifting, pillow munching gay boys. As for that vile land fill site you live in, my God what a hell hole. A nasty little town full of nasty, stupid little people.

I'm talking about SUPPORT
SUPPORTERS
SUPPRTING YOUR TEAM THRU THICK AND THIN

can you manage to understand that ?
and real supporters NEVER, EVER boo their own team (in my book )

Don't tar all fans with the same brush Tony. Whilst I agree that the booing yesterday was totally out of order, and it annoys me like hell that the new premier brigade are probably the ones that were booing , I still believe that we have few rivals when it comes down to Passion and noise. It is normally away from home that fans come into their own, and after seeing our Fans performance at Spurs last week at first hand, I was proud that we outsung the Spurs lads from start to finish. At home though, few clubs can really say that their fans have made their grounds as deafening and as intimidating as ours, and that only comes about because of the noise and backing we give. So, yes, whilst yesterday's "effort" was not up to usual standards, let's not make such brash statements against all the fans eh!

Where were they when we were taking stick from the soapdodgers because we were in the same league as them? Where were they when we lost in the cup to Blyth fucking Spartans. Nouveaux glory hunters ..... I've shit em

But at least there was noise for most of the game. If you go to Burnley, they're quiet and clap along to some song after they score. If you go to Wigan, it's silent apart from a group of kids near the away end who incessantly sing that awful 'ode to joy' thing. Birmingham is half empty and quiet, Everton stay sat down quiet for 90 minutes, The Shit fans at the Theme Park are silent, The Kop don't turn up to most games, [glow=red,2,300]Arsenal are gentile[/glow], Chelsea are awful and despicable, Portsmouth are about half as loud as us and have history's most irritating songs, Hull are mediocre and Bolton are very quiet. Is that a Spurs type joke or an inexplicable slip on the keyboard? Funny though!

The premise of this thread is ridiculous. We remain the loudest and most outwardly supportive home fans in the league.
If we're talking about 'myths' of support, we need look no further than some of the posts on this thread that suggest there was some kind of golden-age of club support at the Vic in the 70s and 80s. Now I'm not old enough have been at the Vic except in its final years, but by all accounts, 12k average attendances don't exactly scream 'cauldron of noise' do they?
We are much better and more consistently supported than any other period in our history I expect.

Yep The loudest and best fans has probably gone - for good Many fans now think that we an established side and have forgotten where we came from (already!) And now booing our own team after a draw - poor stuff from poor (not average) fans who now believe that they are owed a result! And I don't just blame the new fans. It's up to the rgulars to generate the noise which will then be swelled by the new lot Sad but true we are turning into average Premiership fans

We shoud beat teams like Wolves at home and we failed. FACT. I cheer the lads off when we play well or battle. I booed cus I was pissed off and still am with the way that they failed to perform in the second half.

I love it how the booing is down to the new fans! ;D We never booed the team off in the Championship or League 1 or whatever it was called back then did we? It happens and after yesterday I can see why it did. I didn't boo personally but people had every right too.

We are much better and more consistently supported than any other period in our history I expect. Not far off that's for sure! Why is it that some people will accept no criticism whatsoever of the team but will happily round on their fellow supporters in a flash? The atmosphere isn't what it was last season but now that the novelty has worn off slightly that was always going to be the case. we're still right up there with the best in the Premier League though. It is extremely difficult to get fired up when you're being outplayed by a team you're clearly better than and you don't fashion a single on-target attempt in the entire second half. We're not the underdogs now and if the expectations of supporters have risen it's only slightly.

Well said Mac, but I can understand gettin pissed off with our own. I'm lucky, I sit in Block 22, and the people around me are sound, but it must be a fookin nightmare if you get stuck next, or in front of someone who is fookin moaning all the time, that really fries my head! That's where the Terraces were good, you could just move! I was in the West stand last year and moved back into the Boothen because I was surrounded by moaning negetive bastards. I still think that the Brit still has a really hostile, noisy atmosphere but we still need to add songs to our repertoire. Just a thought, I was in the pub before the match yesterday and everyone was singng strongly to !sweet Caroline! Couldn't it be adapted ?

Instead of using energy typing negative bollocks, why don't you divert it towards supporting your team - after all, you are a Stoke City supporter.

Smudge ! firstly, I was as pissed off as anybody after that game - but I am mature enough to realise in professional sport -things can turn quickly and games like yesterday can all too easily happen
2.0 up I was really looking forward to Stoke taking wolves apart and really putting them under the cosh, playing into the home end second half
what we actaully got quite frankly, was a shambles, both from the team and the manager who got it horribly wrong from half time onward somehow, and I was as unhappy and frustrated as anyone.
What I truly hate even more though, is, my fellow fans turning on their own team
I cant stand for it and never will
forget Spurs last week - I shudder to think of the reaction IF we'd actually lost that wolves game (what then ?)
AND suppose we lose a few more at home on the bounce - so called 'winnable' games too ? - what then ?
being supporters thru thick and thin is what REALLY makes us different
Im 51 and, been going regularly since 1970 and I also remember seeing us in the old third divison play 5:3;2 and Nicky Mohan at the back
I also remember seing us draw nil nil away at Bury on a wet tuesday eveing with a throwback reject from port vale with a name begining with Z actually getting a game for us
I would also guess this Madonalds nugget or whateve his fucking name is -has been around for 'five fucking minutes' and I would repeat to him, I have a right to my opinion (alternative as it may be)
and when stoke support turns on their own for so little reason (when you consider where we are and what we are still doing)
its not as if we'd lost the bloody game is it ?
so - I will fucking turn on them and give them stick so richly deserved (after all, those who boo - they are all so bleedin perfect all the time in their working lives aren't they !)
No one is above stick - not the players - the manager - the board or even our support (when it becomes dysfunctional and if anything DISLOYAL).
AND - there's - that word again = SUPPORT
(a concept which seems so hard for some to grasp)
and if my latest rant has made ONE PERSON who booed my team think twice about doing it again in the future
I'll go to bed happy !
goodnight folks !
