The fact that he made so many changes and there wasn't a sight of a first team player on the bench suggets that the management just wanted to get this game out of the way. TP after the spurs game said there would be 10 changes and warned the supporters. No other prem team made so many changes other than ManU.....so its pretty clear that he doesn't take the cup competitions seriously. I for one dont agree or even begin to understand why but its the managers perogative and a win against wolves will go some way to vindicating his choice of squad. But a defeat at home to wolves might ask questions. I am a long way away and dont get to see the cup games but as RAF has said its all a bit pointless in the fans shelling out money if the manager and the team cant be arsed

The point is the kiddies put out on the field should have been arsed and should have staked their claim for a first team spot.

Just playing devils advocate here ... but I wonder if the opposition had any influence over the defence that we started with?
If we'd been away at Villa, would the manager still have selected the same back four?

I don't think the back four would have been different had we been at home to Barcelona.

I think the crux of the whole matter is this -
Pulis hates cup competitions. The players on show were largely wank.

Rob, Surely a line-up including Tuncay, Whelan, Lawrence and Kitson constitutes a 'strong' team? Absolutely, and I completely agree that the team on paper should have put up more of a fight. If we wee taking the competition properly seriously though, we'd have played more first teamers, in defence particularly, and we'd have had Fuller etc. on the bench.

Quality players such as those mentioned should have done better. We should have had options on the bench and the defence was just....................

TP's attitude obviously rubbed off on the players, who played in the manner the manager approached the game ie it was an inconvenience.
For the argument, players would have wanted to show what they can do. Time and Time again Pulis has ignored that and will play half injured players rather than fit raering to go players. This season Kitson was playing well scoring goals and then bang a half fit BT comes in.
When playuers are faced with that scenario and the managers actions time and time again, you can understand the attitude with some players.

Although on paper the lineup didnt look too bad there were just too many changes. In fact apart from Man you last night all the other prem teams made far fewer changes... Stoke 10 none on the bench P'mouth 7 (4 through being cup tied) 2 were on the bench Sunderland 5 but 3 of them on bench Villa 3 all 3 on the bench Spurs 5 (2 thru injury) Everton 1 on the bench Blackburn 6 (and they have swine flu!) 4 on the bench So only TP and Fergie made more changes to their lineups. Seems most other managers took it more seriously. TP by not even taking 10 of his first team let alone putting some on the bench basically conceded the game. hmm, well, last time i checked he is the manager. He should SHARE the blame when they lose and the success when they win ! Managers usually get too much recognition when they win and too much blame when they lose !!

Well, I forked out £20 on a ticket, £27 quid on a train and got to bed at 1am off a train back to London after watching that shower of shit last night and I'd definitely say Tone was partly to blame for that sorry excuse of a performance. He played a team with too many rusty players in it, and by god it showed, and didn't even have many decent options on the bench to turn it around in the second half.
It was most definitely after the Lord Mayor's show following the victory at Spurs.
All of them had a chance to show why they should be in the first XI - only Whelan, Diego and Tuncay, and possibly Griff, even remotely pressed their claims (Liam had a shocker!!).

Europe will be abother unwanted distraction from the premier league....so lets not bother with cup matches or Europe(if we ever make it) and concentrate on hitting midtable premier league every season......so a win at spurs/villa/everton will be the highlight of our achievement.....doesn't sound too exciting to me

Got to agree with RAF on if TP has no interest in cup comps then tell us, the paying fans, not to bother turning up.
Myself, I had only a 40 mile round trip last night, probally costing with train fare, ticket, and one or three beers before about £50 and I was totally pissed off.
What about the poor fuckers that came from the potteries, families included, it must have cost them a small fortune to see that load of toss.
I turned up, them earning £10000 a week didnt.
