I've been wondering if we're searching for a 'Taggart' to pull it all together for the remaining games, although obviously that could cost us 4 or 5 goals at the other end from Cort and Shawcross.
As has been said that influence could come from a keeper. It would be a big call to replace Simmo at this stage of the season wouldn't it. Fulop appears to have serious quality though and potentially a keeper to 'take up with us'.
Marton Fulop has told skysports.com that he hopes to secure a move away from Sunderland before the summer.
Fulop returned to the Stadium of Light in December after he was recalled from his loan at Leicester City by manager Roy Keane.
The Hungarian goalkeeper impressed during his time with Leicester, and Foxes boss Ian Holloway has since enquired about signing him on a permanent basis.
However, Leicester had a bid of £1million rejected earlier this month, with Keane holding out for a fee of £3million.
Fulop feels the valuation is unrealistic, and is aware that he may have to be loaned out again in order to find first-team football.
Not happy
"I had a very good time at Leicester. While the team was not too successful, we conceded the least goals in the Championship," he told skysports.com.
"After some games I became one of the fans' favourites and at the end of my loan period they were shouting my name in the stadium.
"I was happy because the fans and the club also wanted me to stay permanently but the two teams couldn't agree about me.
"It's true that Sunderland is in the Premier League but apart from this I wasn't very happy to be recalled by Roy Keane.
"It's an honour that he [Keane] asked £3million for me but it's too high an amount for a goalkeeper.
Departure
"Roy Keane told me that he'd sell me only permanently in January so I'm sure I won't leave the team this month.
"But in February I plan to talk to him and ask him to loan me. My contract expires in two-and-half-years but I think I am going to leave Sunderland no later than this summer.
"If I'm not loaned in February then I'll do my best and push Craig Gordon from behind. I'll let him know that I'm here and I can challenge him at any time.
"There are teams interested in me from the Premier League and some clubs from the top of the Championship are very seriously keen on me."

Was he about 6'3"? Can't think of anyone who's got near 6'6" - but, then again, I have got a crap memory for anything that happened before yesterday In recent years, weren't Cutler and Dadason about 6'4"? And Cort must be about that.

some comments from a leciester mate of mine...
Fulop was superb for us when he was here. I was gutted to see him leave. Probably the only reason we weren't in the bottom 3 by January already. We have missed him since he has gone frankly.
Great shot stopper, good communicator with the defence, and commands his box well. Kicking isn't brilliant but by no means a problem.
A legend in these parts, even though he was only here half a season. Roy Keane recalled him to sell him. Wanted £3.5 million, we couldn't afford it. Nor could anyone else seemingly so he stayed at Sunderland and now nobody has bought him, Keane is willing to send him off on loan somewhere else. Fulop, self admittedly was enjoying his football here. Now we've loaned someone else. Roy Keane can go f*#k himself.
But I wish him well with you, he's good.

www.sunderlandecho.com/safc/Sunderland-keeper-set-for-Stoke.3806500.jpKeane confirms it's happening. Sunderland Echo 22nd February Sunderland keeper set for Stoke switch
Marton Fulop is set to join Stoke City on loan until the end of the season. The 23-year-old keeper is desperate for first team football in order to retain his international position with Hungary. And now that Darren Ward is back in training, Black Cats boss Roy Keane is prepared to let him go.
"The move could go through this weekend," said Keane. "It might have happened sooner but we had to wait until Darren was fit again. Marton was away on international duty a few weeks ago and was told in no uncertain terms by his manager that he needed to be playing first team football if he was to be considered for Hungary.
"We understand Marton's position and, indeed, we let him go out on loan to Leicester City for the first half of the season. But we have to look after the interests of Sunderland Football Club as well as Marton and we weren't prepared to let him go and leave ourselves short of cover.
"The situation now is that he can leave on loan. We think the experience will do him good."

Cheers for that. Good news - wonder what the price will be if we want to buy him at the end of the season if/when we get promoted?

Yes, I know that is what they asked for him in January. Given that they had no takers will the price drop, I wonder?

Thanks, RSB ;D
Marton was away on international duty a few weeks ago and was told in no uncertain terms by his manager that he needed to be playing first team football if he was to be considered for Hungary.
He's clearly coming to start then. So Simmo must know he's for the chop.

Meanwhile, back at the price...
...yes there may be some "flexibility" from Blunderland but they must be wary of selling us bargains now & will put on 25% just for devilment.
If it is around that figure, at least it confirms we are fishing in the right pond & at the right level.
Also, that leicester fan's comment suggests he might add a bit more communication and leadership at the back?
And blimey O' Reilly, yes, 6'6" officially qualifies as a "big unit"

It's on their official site now... www.safc.com/index.php?page_id=14250FULOP SET FOR STOKE LOAN
Marton Fulop could be set to join Championship table-toppers Stoke City on loan.
Roy Keane has today confirmed he is prepared to let the Hungarian goalkeeper join the Potters after Darren Ward returned to full training last week.
The Sunderland boss reckons a deal could go through over the weekend, although it's unlikely to be in time for Fulop to be available for Stoke's home game against Ipswich tomorrow.
"We might do a deal with Stoke for Marton over the weekend," revealed Keane.
"We've spoken to them over the last few days. Wardy is back in training now, so some time over the weekend we may possibly look to do a deal.
"I kind of have a gentleman's agreement with Marton that if a club comes in that suits everyone, we'll let him go, and I think it would be a good move for him in terms of getting some games under his belt.
"Craig is in good form and with the back-up of Wardy - and young Trevor (Carson) has been outstanding in the reserves - so we think it's probably a good deal.
"Sitting on the bench is not doing him any favours. We have to do what's best for Sunderland and the deal was on hold because there was no way we could let him out while Wardy was struggling with an injury.
"I've always tried to be fair to the players. Marton has spoken to his international manager and he needs to be playing games, I can understand that, but Marton has been first-class.
"But an opportunity has come up now and it's something we've got to look at."
Fulop spent the first half of the 2007-08 campaign on loan with Leicester, originally on a season-long loan deal, before Keane recalled the 24-year-old in January.
He played 24 league games (as well as three league cup) at the Walker's Stadium, under four different managers - Martin Allen (who signed him), Gary Megson, Gerry Taggart (caretaker) and Ian Holloway.
Should a deal go through, Fulop will join former Sunderland players Liam Lawrence, Rory Delap and Dominic Matteo at the Britannia Stadium.
Manager Tony Pulis also took right-back Stephen Wright there for a four-month loan spell during the firs half of the season.

Wha - hey.
Good. I really like the sound of this fella. (Unlike Simmo & Hoult though for sure.)
So, as well as being "Preston reserves", i guess we'll be in with a shout of being labelled "Sunderland reserves" as well now

It is a shame to see Simmo ousted but his recent form (sadly) has deserved it. It must be pretty much sorted, I would have thought they would have had to gain some sort of permission from Stoke to pu tit on their official site? Well done again Stoke for taking the initiative...we might have a clean sheet in the near future I never realised Matteo had played for them either (one game according to Wiki)

Dont think Matteo has played for them and it might be that Simmo will still play with Fulop on the bench

The first signs of Tone's unhappiness with Simo came with his startling decision to drop him and play Hoult at Plymuff, but that backfired with the latter's generally mediocre performance, topped by his sending off.
Maybe a few ropey games in the past couple of weeks have now caused him to look elsewhere in a bid to stop the flow of goals we are conceding. Hoult is not really decent enough any more to challenge Simo, so maybe Fulop will take the starting keeper's spot with Simo relegated to the bench.
It certainly doesn't sound from those articles as if Keane intends for Fulop to come merely to get splinters in his arse.

I don't think you can call Fuller a Preston reserve. You wouldn't call Ade, Gifton, JOC or Thommo Stoke reserves but they were still Stoke reserves whilst playing for Burnley!

Matteo surprised me as well Knowlsey.
(I should have asked you that as a quiz question obviously )
I can see how Simmo and Hoult will be defacing the teamsheet though in the future:
"Fulop"
