Promotion-chasing Stoke want Keane's keeper Fulop on loanLast updated at 11:12am on 21st February 2008 Stoke City have approached Sunderland with a view to take keeper Marton Fulop on loan. The Potters are close to agreeing a loan fee with the Black Cats for the Hungarian who has not had a look-in at the Stadium of Light this season. He has already been temporarily posted to Leicester City but has not featured since late last year for the Foxes. Tony Pulis needs to cover his bases ahead of the season's run-in and is now waiting for the paperwork to be sorted out with Roy Keane poised to sanction the move as long as the finances are sorted out between the two clubs. www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=517198&in_page_id=1779&ct=5

My guess is he woulkdn't come in to sit on the bench? Goodbye, Simmo? Leicester wanted to sign him in January apparently. Offered £1m, but Keane wouldn't sell for less than £3m. www.sunderlandecho.com/safc/Fulop-tells-Keane-I39m-not.3711121.jpFulop tells Keane: I'm not worth £3m25 January Martin Fulop wants to leave Sunderland but believes he is being priced out of a move. The Hungarian enjoyed a positive loan with Leicester City in the first half of the season before the Foxes had a £1million rejected. Roy Keane recalled the former Spurs stopper from Leicester last month and has reportedly slapped a £3m price tag on him. Fulop said: "I had a very good time at Leicester. While the team was not too successful, we conceded the least goals in the Championship. "After some games I became one of the fans' favourites and at the end of my loan period they were shouting my name in the stadium. "I was happy because the fans and the club also wanted me to stay permanently but the two teams couldn't agree about me. "It's true that Sunderland is in the Premier League but apart from this I wasn't very happy to be recalled by Roy Keane. "It's an honour that he (Keane) asked £3million for me but it's too high an amount for a goalkeeper" While he's resigned to missing out on a transfer window move, Fulop says he will soon be knocking on the manager's door regarding another temporary switch when the Football League emergency loan period re-opens next month. "Roy Keane told me that he'd sell me only permanently in January so I'm sure I won't leave the team this month," said the 24-year-old, who made five Championship starts for the Black Cats last season. "But in February I plan to talk to him and ask him to loan me. My contract expires in two-and-half-years but I think I am going to leave Sunderland no later than this summer. "If I'm not loaned in February then I'll do my best and push Craig Gordon. I'll let him know that I'm here and I can challenge him at any time. "There are teams interested in me from the Premier League and some clubs from the top of the Championship are very seriously keen on me."

Agreed FM. Seems a bit of a bolt out of the blue. As we all know, Simmo is going through a little bit of a worrying patch at the moment.
We shall see what tomorrow brings.
(good find by the way)

I expect Vass will have put in a good word for us with Fulop!

It does seem to suggest that he's lost a bit of faith in Simmo, who to be fair is not having the best of seasons compared to his usual lofty standards (although I'd still struggle to think of ten better English keepers than him).

Simmo has been a worry for me for a while now although he is a great shot stopper he just doesn't seem to command his box at any time and always appears glued to his line.
Time for a change me thinks.

Blimey
Mind you, ano (like Luke Moore) with a hefty (£3m) price tag at the end of it.
Whatever next?

dont want to get on simmo's back but his flapping is becoming more worrying every time he plays, And with Hoult as our only backup i would like to see a more highly rated keeper ready to go for next season in the prem

strange one this still think simmo is a very good keeper. However competition in every area can only be good right?? also Fulop is a good keeper and defo good enough for the prem!

Mmm that Leicester board seem as one in their appreciation - e.g.
"Whatever it costs, sign him"
Go on then Tone. ;D

Some Leicester comments...
I would have thought if we are willing to part with 1.5 for Howard we certainly would for Fulop!
We should sign him at all costs. Start from the back. He oozes confidence and the back 4 can be confident when he plays.
He is very good indeed and I would imagine he is worth 12pts a season. and thats quite alot for us at the moment, offload the garbage and get him in at all costs.
Whats the point of having a multi-millionaire owner if you cant splash the cash?, we all know Fulop is quality.
if we don't sign fulop i will shoot roy keane on sight. this is very bad news...
He's worth 2 Million IMO. GET HIM IN. He's also young so he'll last us years.
Imo Fulop should of been our first signing. What ever it cost's sign him please.
Come on Milan .... get the chequebook out ! Fulop has been the best keeper here for years !
£2m is perfectly fair for Fulop. I'd have been delighted but sunderland would have been daft to accept £1m. We should get the job sorted and move on.
I agree i would pay anything up to 3.0mill for him. Its not like were taking a risk on him as we know what hes capable of. Hes 24 so hes still young.
£2-2.5 million i'd say was a fair price. £3 million is a high price to pay for a goalkeeper but i don't think there is a better goalkeeper than him in the championship so hopefully holloway will still try and sign him.
Is 3 million pounds too much for an international keeper who could possibly be worth double that in a couple of years? I'm not sure it is
We cannot afford to lose Fulop. We'd be even further in the shite right now if it wasn't for his performances!
If we can sanction spending £1.5m in a 31 year old Steve Howard who is only going to depreciate in value whilst he's here then there should be no problem spending £3m on a 24 year old (young for a GK) who is surely going to increase in value with regulat football under his belt. I'm sure Sunderland would accept £2.5m anywayIf it means we use up our transfer budget then maybe we shouldn't have been in such a rush to pay out £1.5m for Howard. Fulop should have been a priority singning ahead of Howard!!

Really good keeper, different to Simmo in that he is more the commanding type but perhaps not as spectacular as Simmo can be.
Imho, definitly NOT the time to simply change the team too much but definitly a good idea to get good players in to compete with the current team.
sign him, stick him on the bench & let him earn his place if/when Simmo plays badly - a bit like TP has done with Gally so far

He wants games, and that's the only reason he'd come, surely? And remember Pulis was willing to really shake rhings up at Christmas by giving Hoult a run before he got sent off.

I work with a leicester fan and he rate this keeper very highly.Sunderland wouldnt let him go for less than 3 mill but he says he is way worth more than that,so should be intresting to see the outcome of it.

keane definitley won't let him go out on loan unless he is going to get games. the defense look as though they don't have any faith in simmo when coming for crosses and with diao not up to his best at the moment they seem to be under constant pressure. so a bit more stability at the back wouldn't go a miss. and if that means a new keeper i'm all for it.

Agree - a very, very good move if we can swing it.
Some bemoan (& rightly so to some degree) a missing 'dominant character' at the back; well that character can come from the keeper of course.
Don't know him / never seen him play but could this lad be the one to call the shots from the back?
Hoult has had his chips come the end of this contract.
