Always makes me feel good when I see a re-run of probably the greatest Stoke game I have ever seen. Unless you were about in the 70s I guess you wouldn't realise what an enormous achievement it was to beat Leeds but it was!
This must be one of the greatest ever games played at the Vic imo

Me too. I don't know if it's the best game I've ever seen at the Vic but it was certainly one of them.

I was in the Boothen that day, you could have heard a pin drop when Bremner put his free kick in, the silence was defening I don't think anyone could believe what he had just done. In sharp contrast the mental after Smithy's goal was immense found my self some 30 steps further dowm the boothen whe I found my feet again.
For me I would rate this match in my top 3 all time matches at the vic
1st v Luton 4-4 2nd V Leeds 3rd v Man U CUP REPLAY we won 2-1 don't know if it was the League cup or the Fa cup my memory is fading but what an atmosphere, in all we played Man u seven times that season and only lost 1 match!!!!!

I was also in the Stoke end paying around 20p for the privilege.
Was also there when we beat Arsenal 5-0 and Leeds 3-0, to dispel any rumours that it was all champagne and roses in the 70's I was there when Leeds dicked us 5-1.

Sonof Banks, you must have been standing next to me, I reckon there was 20-30 kids clustered under that pylon as it was the only way you could see when the terrace was full....do you remember when Ritchies header hit the bar, we all thought it had gone in, and started our own mental...couldnt work out 20 seconds later what had happened, had to see it on the telly on Sunday to understand it.

Leeds game was a classic, and remember we played with three strikers that day, Ritchie, Greenhoff and Hurst, as well as Jimmy Robertson as an attacking winger Waddo knew how to take it to the opposition regardless of their reputation

Hi Rob,I was in Boothen about 20 steps up the terracing and in line with Bremner's cheeky opener, just to the right of the boxed off area behind the goal!Watch that video each time it's posted, never been able to spot myself yet though!Someone must know the guy behind the Leed's goal on about the 2:30 mark, long dark hair and look's a right villain,he's just over Harvey's left shoulder, very distinguished fella.

Talking of attacking football, watching the Leeds game, at one time Stoke's back 4 are all in a line about 10 yds INSIDE the Leeds half!

That game was about sevem months before I started going. Of all the matches before I started if there's one I wish I could have been to it's that one. Even more than March 4th 1972.

The Leeds game was my first. Sat in the posh seats, Boothen stand with my dad.
I was already football and Stoke City mad, so if you're ever going to get the bug for life it would be that day.
Wasn't at the Arsenal game but seem to remember that the 3rd goal (TC) was Goal of the Season. Arsenal won the double that season, and we tonked them at home early doors, and met them in the semi final of the cup.
