Joe didnt they go for a 50.50 ball outside the area and Shilton blasted it into his stomach, only to see both Gowling and the ball go past him towards an empty net...comical if you werent a stoke fan.
On the goal keeper front can i put a word in for Rodger Jones....known the faithful as "non-stick"

Shilton mishit it at him yeah. More of an embarassment as it was on telly the next day. If it happened now it'd be beamed across the world in seconds!

Who was the young lad who had to play a couple of games during the holocaust season. He conceded so many goals that when he stopped a backpass in front of the Boothen, there was a loud cheer.

Old Stokies will remember Bobby Irvine. He was always making gaffs and also cost us a 3rd round home fa cup match against mighty Walsall in 1967 I think it was. Mind you, I seem to remember the ref giving a goal for them when the ball went through a hole in the side netting. After this game I think Waddo sacked him. His only claim to fame was his brother Willie played for Burnley and in a league game against them they were both picked as captains thus becoming the only brothers ever to play in opposing team as captains. Mind you the neville brothers may have done this recently.

lawrieleslie, i think the goal through the side netting was against swansea in the cup? right in front of the boothen end. I rember me and my dad going to sheff utd. for a night match, it was the first time he'd seen bobby ivine play for us, I'd been teling him all the way there how good our new keeper was, think we lost by 3 goals and ivine had a nightmare.

Somebody must remember the young lad from the holocaust season. Stuart Roberts Thank you! His confidence was destroyed by the woeful defending in front of him. Whatever promise he showed was knocked out of him.

Somebody must remember the young lad from the holocaust season. wasn't it Mark Harrison from the Vale? Harrison was OK, but injury forced his early retirement.
