And it's only Tuesday...
"We know what Everton are like. They're a strong side, they're hard working, they've got good players and it's going to be a tough game for us."
Our popular new signing on BBC Sport today....

What would you like him to say?
Let's hear what you think it would be wise for Pulis to say in print a few days before a game?

Nothing wrong with what Whitehouse has to say.

Sounds like the truth to me! I agree it is the truth, but what purpose does it serve talking up the opposition before each and every game! What is demonstrates is that TP's obsession with the opposition's strengths is deeply entrenched in the psyche of the players.

I like to think of Everton as a slightly better version of us. Am I deluding myself? They have a couple of talented indivduals but nothing outstanding and are first and foremost a hard working team of triers. Good team but nothing special IMO.

I'll give you another go: "OK, I'm here with the Stoke City manager spitthedog. So, spit, it's Everton away this weekend. What are your thoughts on the opposition?"

Having said that, as serpico said, it's just the same drivel speeled out by most managers every week. Personally he can big them up all he wants in the press for all i care. It's what he says to the players on the training ground and in the dressing room that's important. Now that would be interesting and worth discussing i reckon.

Well according to a toffee I know, despite their results, he isnt overly convinced yet. According to him, they were very lucky agaisnt Pompey
On the plus side - they seem to be still getting over Lescott at the back and look more shaky than last year. Plus they will have played Thursday
On negative - Saha is in fine form and the Yak is back who can be crap or unplayable on his day (now who does that rmind me of?)

Exactly, although i do think TP sometimes over does it ;D but for the most part it's a standard thing to do, you don't want to give the opposition anything to use against you, so best just to play a straight bat, compliment the opposition in public and privately make sure the players know we can go there and get something .

I know there is a middle ground but i believe Phil Brown is always very positive in the press.
Be very careful what you wish for. ;D

Perhaps the manager and the players should give one set of interviews for the benefit of spitthedog and people who feel like him and another set of interviews for the rest of us! ;D
Would that suit you spitty?
Seriously, the responses on this thread show how difficult it is to give an interview without upsetting somebody. I noticed Sir Alex bigged us up in interview before the game - worked for him! ;D

nowt wrong with the summary of Everton but plenty wrong about bigging up your opponents at 2.50pm the day you play them on a big f******* screen.
That was treasonous at worst, and fu**wittery at best.

Why won't he speak the truth!
"We've got a vague idea what they're like and that's enough for us. They're a weak side. And lazy. Their players are shite and this is going to be a piece of piss for us."

Let's hope Moyes does just that. But of course he won't - he's a professional. Like Whitehead. And Pulis.

Look out for Stoke's new prematch film strip, entitled, Forbidden Fruit- A Pulis Tribute to Sir Whiskey Nose and his Saggy Bollocks
