PotterLog, you could just have said "I'm crap at football. There i am again thinking I'm Pericard!" ;D That was how it was going to go Joe, but then I realised that Vincent Pericard is probably the only person in the world who doesn't think Vincent Pericard is crap at football.

But he'll be able tell his grandkids he played on the same pitch as Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs. Will he remember to tell them he was shit??

When I was in my late teens and early twenties I played a few seasons as a defender towards the arse end of the Ansells leagues, and a few years of five/six-a-side after that. Generally I was fucking rubbish (even at that crap standard) but pretty good at heading and fouling, so I always enjoyed it more when I was playing centre half.
However, a couple of years ago I noticed that I was getting even slower than I was previously, and eventually I was moving like a milk float, driven up a hill by Bernard manning. The last straw was when I was going for a 50-50 ball that in truth was about 80-20 in my favour. I just knew I wasn't going to make it, and ended up watching my young, whippet-like opponent nipping the ball past me, as I almost apologetically tripped him up for having the temerity to make me look like the slow bungling fool that I was.
At 31, I occasionally have a relaxed kickabout, but am so overweight, fucked and unfit that even playing at a snails pace for an hour with my mates leaves my legs knackered for about a week afterwards.
I do miss kicking people though. ;D

Whole different deal growing up in the States, where American Football is king, so none of this "translates", but.... I was a damn fine defensive midfielder - we called the position "Stopper". Pitches were horrible, most of the girls weren't huge fans of "soccer" players, but I my teammates were great and I always loved the sport. I was a league all-star all through secondary school, picked up a fair few yellows and scored some absolutely beauties on set plays, one from nearly midfield. Gave it up for Rugby in my college years. Wish I'd had the exposure to the youth systems and academies in the UK where I could've gotten something more out of it. ??? Now I just juggle and kick it around with my kids...

This has got to be the 3 rd best tread only DV and Zigic beating it!
At 39 and pushing 18 stone i still play a few times a week but have done my groin in about 4 months ago and have played a few times in the past few weeks but it still aint right.
Hated playing football growing up,first Stoke game 79 with big bro and a few in between me leaving school and getting a job and had so much cash didn't know what to do with it so went Stoke on my own and have never looked back!
When i was 16 started playing 5 a side with work and was taught how to kick a ball by Mick and Dave Dale 2 local lads who have played at a top level(well not a paid level)but basically went from there played in Ansells prem and all down through the divs, went on to manage the Galley pub team and had some good seasons 3 promotions a cup final at Congleton town(lost to kidsgrove plough)wankers! fucked off around the world and am now back helping out Mow Cop Hornets under 16 team.
So yes i am a great player even better manager and i will tell Tone and Peter where they are going wrong or right via this message board!! ;D

I played junior football from the age of 6 til 16 for my local town football team. I played the ' mama ' role ;D Constantly flicking balls on, holding the ball up and threading balls through, didn't have the best strike-rate, but certainly had my fair share of assists My team were awful to say the least though, we once lost a game 32-0 ;D and went an entire season without picking up a point ;D Still, good times

I always tell my lads that I knew it was time to pack it in once young lads were knocking it past me and disappearing into the distance.
You summed it up so much better.

I was at Crewe at 14, Liverpool scouts were supposedly coming to see me and another player but i got an injury and was out for a season, first game back did the same thing and out for anohter 8-9 months.
After that kinda lost the will with it and started drinking and smoking...
Also i have played against Dean Ashton and at the time was an ok player but nothing special. How times moved on...
Many would say i made it but i screwed up... and havent kicked a ball for 3 years probably.
Im now an IT Network Engineer how exciting!!

I'm an average Sunday league right back, decent tackle and first touch, and can pick out a pass, fitness lets me down though ;D. At 7 a side I'd say I'm actually quite good.
