Now I'm not meaning to have a go....
....but can somebody answer me this:
When we have changed away from 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 - have we ever got anything out of the game?
Please help me - because I can't remember us doing so?

Maybe Liverpool away last season? Other than that though, every time we change we lose, or else we are compelled to switch back to the usual system to rescue a result (Newcastle and Villa away). TP reaches for changes as some sort of comfort blanket but it never works, so I'm not sure why he does it?

Thanks for the confirmation: I wouldn't mind defensive formations if they worked: brought us home a courageous 3 points now and again. But they don't. We've got to stop kidding ourselves: we are in the Prem and that's on merit. We should give every game a go: do what we do best and go at teams and scare them. Sit back - against the best players in the world and we'll lose pretty much every time. Just look at ow much space Scholes had today. Playing 5 in midfield was suppose to protect us and give them less space. It's hard to image how Schioles could have had more space today? TP has to learne from his mistake: if something isn't working don't just keep trying it.

In agreement with you...I'd rather lose and go down fighting than this damage limitation defensive twaddle we played today.....it failed to inspire even the fans today..and thats saying something. If we don't believe we are as good as the Man U's and Chelsea's what the hell are we doing in the Premier league ?? A lot of times we'll play these top teams and lose...but better to fight and lose than not to fight at all.....but those times when we win are the best memories ever ...

Seconded, i'm fucking sick of watching us bend over like good inmates as soon as we play one of the big boys. Fair enough football is a business, but it's also supposed to be entertaining. If we'd have gone at Man Poo and ended up getting dicked, at least we could have said we played our part and provided a decent spectacle for the fans, But no, we had to try and contain an attacking force the calibre of United and as a result, we ended up with a drab, frustrating and ultimately pointless game. I'm not a PHW by any means, but i like to feel proud of my team, proud of the joy they are capable of giving, and today wasn't one of those days.

Agree with PLF above. Was impressed by Mick McCarthy's comments in midweek (after losing at Old Trafford) about being sick of being tapped on the head and sent home like good little boys. Pulis, on the other hand, is so in awe of the Ferguson's of this world he seems to relish being patronised.

Excellent sentiments ........ we are here ON MERIT ... we deserve our place at the top table ..... so why are we only ever looking for the scraps off the floor when we play the big teams?

Fair enough football is a business, but it's also supposed to be entertaining. I'm happy enough not to be entertained if the change in formation actually gets us somet out of the game.

TP only changed today because Fuller was out injured. Judging by the league cup team and the way we lined up, the plan was
Delap - Whitehead - Whelan - Etherington
Kitson
Fuller.
