I understood what Tony was trying to do with Kitson and Etherington this afternoon, in fact it's almost the same team that I would have put out except I would have swapped Collins for Higgy, and Tuncay for Etherington. What became very clear to everyone today, was that it was not that Kitson and Ethers were ineffective, in fact they were better than Beattie and Tuncay. The problem was that we were incapable of taking the ball forward either by hoofing it or passing it out. Our midfield played so deep we gave Scholes the freedom of the midfield to direct the whole game, alternatively we hoofed it forward to Rio and Vidic. I'm not going to try and come up with the solution that would have worked, because as I said, I would have used the same tactics as Tony at the start. What I'm sorely dissapointed with, is that Tony appeared to believe that changing the two attack players and not the formation, would change the nature of the game.

I like Kitson but he can't play up front on his own - he's not that type of player. Once Fuller and Beattie were ruled out, Pulis should have played 4 4 2. We might as well have a go and lose 5 - 0. We played 5 in midfield, but didn't close them down at all, so Scholes had all the time he wanted on the ball. I've watched Stoke for about 35 years and that was the first time i've ever decided to leave before the end of the game. Crap tactics, and unless we're playing a team outside the top 4, crap manager.
