Early to mid '70s, Berryhill High, it was apparently in the school rules that we had to wear a tie, but it was virtually impossible to enforce, very very few actually did. Think I wore one twice in the whole time I was there, both times when they had a clampdown, fact of the matter was, most of the lads at the school didn't possess a tie

With a knot so big, it defied physics.

potassium permanganate in the bunsen was much more entertaining, though did attract a 2 day suspension from school. Happy days ;D Still can't understand why, despite the fact that permanganate was purple, it stained my hands orange when I got some on them.

The slim jim was always popular at Alsager comp (i.e. tie it with the wide end round your neck and the thin end hanging down). I preferred the grey lambs wool v-neck sweater and respectable tie combo. We were largely a much better class of student in Alsager dontchaknow Yeah if you wore it Skinny, wearing a JUmper was a no-no!

I wear it like a normal person, and how a tie was intended.
Just like I wear my shoes on my feet rather than on in my pocket and the other on my left hand....

Huge fat knot and tie short as possible. We also did the compass plucking thing where strands were pulled from the tie so it basically got shredded and totally disintegrated after a while ;D
