Might be wrong but Ashley Cole buried his Euro 2004 pen with the minimum of fuss. He takes a good pen. Saw him take a few decent ones for Arse too. Never seen him miss.
The thing is, when the heat is on, you can't count on anybody. Gerrard and Lampard both missed at the least wc.

Suppose if golden balls himself can miss crucial kicks then no ones infallable.

I never rated Becks as a pen taker to be honest. He's missed loads for England and even that one he scored against the Argies was a good height for the keeper and straight at him.

I would. His penalty record is shite. Sorry to dissapoint -------------------------------------------- So minus Rooney,Gerrard,Lampard,Defoe. who else would you select with the temprement/character other than Owen, who (under pressure) would take a penalty in the world cup knock-out stage/final, if it came down to a Pen shoot-out?? Ashley Cole Joe Cole Ashley Young Gareth Barry Glen Johnson No they are not people who've taken loads of pens but i'd be just as confident with any of these as i would with Owen. Asi said above he's missed bloody loads. It's a while back now but i remember seeing a comparison between Henry, Van Nistlerooy and Owen on penalties. I stand to be corrected but at the time it was something like 18 and 19 out of 20 scored by Henry and VN and 11 out of 20 for Owen. That's barely more than 50%, i could manage that ;D My point basically was about someone suggesting it was a good reason to get him in the squad which i don't think it is as he's ben pretty poor at penalties.

Obviously Fab aint gonna consider him if he aint doing the business on the pitch, that much is clear. My point is mainly in re: to having the character/confidence ie concerned more with scoring rather than missing a pen on the big stage, under immense pressure. In spite of the stats, I think Owen would have the character/confidence to do that especially if playing well.
