Following on from the players who turned us down thread, it got me thinking about those who left us to "further their ambition". In recent times I'm thinking Wayne Thomas and Kris Commons......how gutted must they be now?

Clive Clarke - although his career came to a premature end which had nowt to do with the club he was at.
He's still a Stoke fan though!

Bit harsh on Sheron. We've since found out he was made to sign for QPR because of the ground!

If you think about it how many ex Stoke players have gone on to better things?
A lot of it is down to Tony Pulis and the system he plays. Until recently we've shopped in the bargain basement department and had players with limited skill.
The system Pulis employs is about 11 players on the pitch knowing their respective roles in the team, not individual brilliance. This is why when a player leaves Stoke their limitations are shown up and they fail to deliver to the same standard as what they have shown during their time at Stoke.

But he did leave us for a Prem Club. I think the reason was more to do with TP getting the sack and being replaced by a mad Dutchman, though.

Does anyone remember which one it was out of Adrian Heath, Paul Bracewell or Neil Adams who after signing for Everton did a profile interview for Shoot magaizne and when asked the question "What is you biggest regret?" replied "Not leaving Stoke sooner". I can't remember which one it was, but defo one of 'em.......even as a boy I thought traitor!

Sheron did publically say if we didn't let him go to QPR then he felt that he couldn't give his all for Stoke . He couldn't wait to get away.
Wasn't long after he's just been made our highest paid player ever.
Yep fair enough Forny. Not biased but you couldn't blame Clarke.

WRONG!!! Kav was yet another victim of the Icelandic board/John Rudge attitudes to football. And I'm sick of putting the side across that I know and given up trying now. Bit I'll take Kav's version over media bollox Kav openly stated he went to Cardiff to further his International ambitions. I think he did play for Ireland once or twice Personally I was glad he went because his best game was the first one he ever played for us

Sheron alluded to his departure a couple of years ago, basically saying he was told that he had to go to. His subsequent quotes are all part and parcel of a transfer. He also said he knows it was a bad decision to leave because he never played as well again.

Carl Hoefkens.
Promised Brazilian-esque footy at Rio De Smethwick when could of become a Stoke legend.
Now without a club, surely he must be up on the list.
