And having just got back to the match I stick by what I said. Richardson apart (and he couldn't keep going for 90 minutes) none of your midfielders are any better than Lawrence. Steed is ten times the player Lawrence is so he wouldn't get in our team ahead of him. If however Lawrence suddenly became a left winger I'd have him here as Richardson and Reid aren't good enough there. I initially read that as "Stead is 10 times the player Lawrence is". I wondered if there'd been some kind of chemical leak up there.

Can I just clear a few things up here once and for all because they keep on being repeated (despite earlier attempts at clarification from Robvan)
Collins has NOT won our PoTY for the past 2 seasons. He won it last season, but Kenwyne Jones won it the season before.
Collins has NEVER been a Sunderland club captain. He has worn the armband on occasion, and inherited it on a match to match basis this season because he is our longest serving player. Steve Bruce has repeatedly been saying he will only appoint a captain after the deadline has passed.
Collins was never a Wales regular. In fact he "retired" from international football over 2 years ago after refusing to be called up as a squad player, claiming he deserved better than that as a Premier League regular. He certainly never captained Wales.
Sunderland fans have a huge amount of respect for the man, but not the player. He is a top professional, brilliant attitude, and shown he is extremely willing and capable to learn and improve, but at 29 it is thought it is the right time to cash in.

Player of the year last season. Wow.....That's good enough for me! Solid but unflashy player with our DNT in attitude. Just the sort of signing to help push us further up the league. A player never wins respect as a man only. He won player of the year - not man of the year! Don't care how good a man a player is, if he is a dodgy footballer he will not be popular. Respect and poplarity at a club is earned virtually entirely on the pitch - being a great guy helps but definitely comes second. The fact that he is so popular with the mackems tells me he aint a bad player!!!!!!!!!!!

It was like giving the entire squad a vindaloo and awarding a prize the next morning for the least stinking shite they produced.
