Now, after signing Whitehead today (who isn't that old), and being linked with the likes of Finnan (33YRS), is anyone else starting to think we have a somewhat ageing squad?? Now I know the 2 lads from Crewe are for the future, but if you look below it's not a young squad is it??. I know Pulis has always prefered established players but should we be concerned?? No players under 25??
Name Age Position Country Sørensen 34 Simonsen 31 Sonko 29 Higginbotham 31 Shawcross 22 Cort 30 Dickinson 22 Wilkinson 25 Griffin 30 Davies 25 Pugh 27 Whelan 26 Whitehead 26 Fayé 32 Tonge 27 Lawrence 28 Delap 33 Soares 23 Etherington 28 Fayé 32 Olofinjana 29 Diao 32 Kitson 29 Beattie 32 Cresswell 31 Sidibé 29 Fuller 29 Attacker Jamaica

I think you need plenty of experienced faces in a side. Arsenal have lacked experience for several seasons now and ultimately won nothing.

No, not at all, when they are too old they won't be played any more or will retire, then we sign younger players, age doesn't matter as long as they're good enough

We've just signed two 18 year olds don't forget, we have Whelan, Wilko and ShawX who are young and promising. And I hear Louis Moult is good?

Pulis knows what he's doing. It's perfectly clear to see we need to invest in players who will do a job instantly. You'd have to start paying 2 million plus for these good young players, and i'd much rather prefer it spent on "Older", better players.
Maybe in 2 or 3 years,we'll go younger, but you look at the likes of Wigan, Pompey etc - they're all models of teams who have succesfully consolidated in the premiership, and there has been very little investment in youth, if any.
Basically, we could do with youth, but by no means do we need it at this moment in time.
Also, i see no Soares or Dicko?

If Waddo taught us anything, it was about the employment of players that other clubs thought were too old.

y2j, you ask no players under 25, but list shawcross as being 22. Where's dickinson? he's only 21 or 22 isn't he? Although not likely to make the team this season. Where is Soares at 21?
We will bring the odd youngster through but experience of 25-30 year olds is what we need with the odd youngster in.

The old Rednapp formula.. Players from 28 -33 been there, done it in the Prem... Works for him, no doubt will work for his disciple (TP) Just hope we get the odd carling / FA cup final every now and again as well

No substitute for experience.....especially of being relegated. Avoid at all costs and TP builds a team that knows that.

I've modified it now, as for some reason I had missed Dicko & Soares out (although realistically I don't expect either to be challenging for a place) though they are squad members. I am not saying Pulis is wrong but it dawned on me yest when looking at Finnan how old our squad is??
