TREBOR....The point you fail to understand is simply that some of these Blacks and Asians could not, or would not speak to white officers in some instances, and therefore non-white officers are needed. This is because of mis-trust, hatred, or language barriers.Obviously this does not apply to the majority of ethnic minorities but it does to some. A better idea might be to stop employing small white female officers who on front are completely incapable of dealing with violent situations.They are a complete liability and can result in dangerous confrontations becoming far wosre. Women officers should only be used for office and women search roles and other less confrontational situations. Why only 'WHITE' small female officers ?

When I worked (on a 6 month contract) for Stoke on Trent City Council...Anti-Racist training was obligatory...so that whitey could understand how racist he/she was....and although I understand the idea/principles behind 'positive-discrimination'..what you inevitably get is a group of people who are not up to the job....And that has happened to some extent within social-services/social-work...Asian men who treat women like shit...working with single-parent families...and radical lesbian feminists who detest men...working in 'family-conciliation'.... And the people who ultimately suffer for this PC approach..are people recieving the service... Agreed, the wrong sort of positive discrimination does no-one any favours, least of all the people who are given the jobs when not up to them. What's the right kind of positive DISCRIMINATION then ?

The fact of the matter is some people (I'm talking about politicians here) are so desperate to be seen as pc and undiscriminating that they are in actual fact the most racist people going! They seem to think being racist against white caucasian Brits is perfectly acceptable in their slightly weird world! Trouble is reading one or two comments on here there are one or two daft enough to agree with them! Positive discrimination for one group is, by the very nature of it, positive discrimination against another group

I'm afraid if you don't know the reasons why positive discrimination was introduced then you are being deliberately stupid. The sad fact is that the black and asian population make up an overwhelming number of the poorest people in the country and also more often unemployed. Now I know that there are some who would like to think it is because they are stupid or lazy but it just isn't the case unless you believe whites are members of a master race.
I well remember leaving a job in an office the once and had to bring up for interviews the person who would replace me, the manager of the office when he saw a black bloke coming in was 'oh f*ck me, not a nigg*r'.

It should always be best man/woman for the job. End of. I don't know if it still applies but the police used to have a % target of recruiting people from an Asian background and even lowered the scores required in the aptitude test for these applicants. That is not just any old target. They would automatically give an Asian applicant a test/interview over a white one. A bit like the guaranteed interview for disabled people. I know this to be true as a friend of mine who did get in (who is white) went through the whole process where he was outnumbered 3/1 and they openly talked about it.
