Anyone hear the BBC Manchester reporting talking about the proposed (at that point) transfer of Owen to the Shit?
Said that people had previously been talking about Owen moving to even "Hull and Stoke". Said Stoke with such a level of disdain. Sounded like utter vile.

Saw it on SSN earlier and they said the same sort of thing. "Before today his options were Aston Villa at best, Hull or even Stoke."

I think it was Juliette Ferrington monitoring/reporting on the Owen thing. Wasn't she with Radio Stoke at one time, and I seem to recall she had a Vale bias - always spoke affectionately of Rudgie. Perhaps explains her dismissive "even Stoke" comment! d

I don't see the problem. We and Hull hardly have the same status in the game as Man you do we? To be honest, very few clubs anywhere do have their sort of status.
That isn't to say clubs like us, Hull, Bolton etc. are not worth our place in the Premier League but broadcasters would be dishonest to imply that we are all equal. And one of the great things about not being on top of the pile, is that you have something to aim for - we all need our dreams!

...but it was the way it was said:
"Owen was considering offers from Hull <pause> and even STOKE."
The Stoke part was spat out. Dismissively.
Yeah, we're not in the same league as the Shit (size wise), but it was like we are on the same level as Alsager Town.

Be honest, 18 months back and you'd have been gob smacked if we had been linked with Owen. Stoke and Owen or even Stoke and Ashton have not been words we or the media have been used to seeing together.

I know what you mean, I felt the same when SSN announced Owen going to Man U yesterday-and putting Stoke last after Hull. The thing is though, Hull did announce their intentions of wanting Owen, before Stoke did.
I don't think any offence was intended- and maybe we're reading too much into it.

Lakeland, you really had to hear the tone in which it was said. The line of the story was that Manu fans were not going to be happy with a player of the calibre and connections of Owen. He then went on to say that what made it worse was that he obviously would not be up to standard because he had been linked to the likes of Stoke, Hull, etc in a truly arrogant and dismissive way. I don't believe that anyone who heard the report is being oversensitive.
