Plymouth: Do you think they would be in the Prem if they still had our Tone ;D
They must look at Stoke and think that might have been us?

Only if Plymouth had a chairman like Coates - no way would we be where we are now if it wasn't for PC (with or without Tone).

Agreed, Coates backed Pulis to make the right signings and he did. Don't know if the chairman at Plymouth would have gambled over a million on Shawcross etc.

no as they dont have the football tradition that stoke have
what i mean is that there are a lot of clubs out there that are sleeping giants, obviously your leeds and other relegated prem clubs, southampton etc
but teams like the sheffield clubs, brum, wolves, crystal palace, qpr who have a football tradition, large followings, will always be there or there abouts in the ccc and every few seasons one of these will have a decent manager and good crop of players and achieve promotion
i still maintain that stoke fully deserved promotion but cahieved it in a poor ccc season where there were alot of other teams who were expected to get promoted
i also believe that how ever hard it is to stay up it is harder to get promoted in the first place.

The points teams get to get promoted used as a yardstick of quality is misleading. The year Reading went up Sheffield Utd and Watford went up with more points than we got when we got promoted, yet both sides were clearly gash. The answer to the question is almost certainly not by the way. Even if they had a Chairman like Coates attracting decent players to Plymouth is hard. It's like emigrating.

Smaller clubs than Plymouth have reached the top flight in the past.

living in plymouth, I have to say that their fans dont care. I know you get it everywhere but there are so many more man u, arsenal, chelsea and liverpool fans round here than argyle ones, and I would say its worse here for gloryhunters than it ever was in stoke. when Im out in my stoke top I get a few comments saying Plymouth would be where we are if he stayed, but their fanbase just isnt as passionate as ours. (granted half of ours only joined 15 months ago haha.) they dont have the money or spirit that could get them to the premier league, and even if they got there, I genuinely believe they still wouldnt sell out their shed (Home Park)
