Mitch passed away last week after a brave battle against illness. Age 58. He came from the Silverdale area.
Mitch was a massive Stokie and a very good local Referee.
R.I.P. Mitch.

RIP Mitch.
I remember him sending off one of our team before the game had kicked off, you certainly knew he was reffing the game.

Just to echo the thoughts of everyone else. I knew Mitch in the early 70's - I also remember travelling back from Ajax with him on a PMT bus in 1974 after he had sustained a serious head injury having been hit by a truncheon. He just carried on as normal. I met up with him again in the late 70's after he had started family life in the Meir. It was about this time that he started refereeing and as you can guess - he took no prisoners and players would have been foolish to mess around with him. A real character and a true Stokie.

He was reffing us one day and asked me to pick him up and could i drop him off after. Said yeah no problem mitch. Picked him up and during the game he sent me off, straight red. He came in the changing rooms after the game and said to me , i've got time for a quick drink with the lads in the pub before you drop me off. Gets in the bar and he says get mine , so i gets him a drink . Then on the way home i said to him what about the sending off .He said yeah deffo straight red no choice. So i'd picked him up , bought him a drink and took him home and he'd sent me off. Got the sending off through and he'd put it in as a booking saved me £30 . Top bloke rip mitch

Good story about him reffing. Mitch was a very very good non league referee and a very genuine bloke. Mitch was a called a spade a spade type of guy. I knew him in the 70's and he loved Stoke and the Boothen End, he often ran with the fighters and wasnt scared of anyone or anything and would get stuck in. He often had a run in with the authorities and lived life on the edge. I know he will be missed by his family and it would be nice if he were to have a good turn out at his funeral so people can pay their last repects. I hadnt seen him for a long time but his memories will live on.
R.I.P. Mitchell-A Proper Boothen Boot Boy!
