Russell was superb, took all the added responsibilty he had with Eustace being out in his stride and delivered his best performance in a Stoke shirt. My MOM easily after all his problems of recent months.

Russel was brilliant today, always willing to have a crack against a toss keeper + he wroked really hard. Russels my MOM. Thought Svard did well to.

Just about Clarke but it could easily have been Russell

I thought Gifton did a lot of muscle work today and was excellent. I also thought Russell and Svard were superb against two old know-hows in Samways and Merson.
My man of the match though would have to go to Willo. Given that he has'nt played for months and the fact that the fans really have'nt given him a fair crack of the whip and have got on his back then to put in a performance like he did today was superb.
Top Man.

Too right about Williams. Too many no-mark nobheads on here slagging him off because they have to call someone a donkey don't they?

Full credit to Asaba, Russell, GNW, Svard and Williams.... but..... I felt it was Clive Clarke!

I'll be the first to admit this season hasn't been Clarkey's best but today yes he had a good game, as did Russell who I have to say, that is the best I've seen him play since Sunderland at home (please Daz be a bit more consistent, you're a cracking player when you want to be!)
MOM - Darel Russell shades it...ony just though.

Agree with Smudge...thought he was quiet first half. By that I mean he didn't stand out but what he did, he did well.
Second half I felt he shone. He made some great runs forward and more than did his job at the back, not wasting possession and using the ball well.
As I said in another thread, although I thought Russell was my MOM, Clarkey led by example and had a great game.

Russell gets my vote - got to be his best in a Stoke shirt.
Clarkey pushed him all the way for it. I was also well impressed by the way Svard broke up so much of Walsall's play and found another Stoke player to put us back on the attack - especially 2nd half. Looks to be a potential excellent loan signing.

Very difficult call today but I'd give it to Russell simply because he looked so comfortable on the ball. Best game I've seen him play in a Stoke shirt yet.
If I was choosing a MOM from the whole game, it would have been Merson. I'd have paid the entrance fee just to see this guy display his talents.
BTW, it was the linesman who deserves the credit for disallowing the goal. He was brave enough to lift his flag when he could simply have interpreted his decision by saying to himself...."well, it was going in anyway and really, the guy who was offside didn't make much difference." Had it happened to us, I would have been livid but, technically, he was correct!
OS.

I thought Russell was excellent and Asaba as well.
It was a great team effort and Williams throwing himself in front of one of their players to block a shot summed it up.
The future looks good and we are putting distance betwen ourselves and the bottom 3.

Russell just gets my MOTM with Gifton a close second.
Sarbs did well when he was under pressure to perform (but he is no left winger, TP please note) and Clarkey had his best game of the season.
All in all the midfield and attack did well but the defence looked as though it contained 3 second string players not just one.

Gifton was immense today, can't get my head round any of the criticism he receives. Our two worst performances of the past three months have come when he's not in the team, it's not a coincidence.
Darel was superb as was Clarkey, and it was nice to see Krissy Commons playing more for the team today.
But my MOM goes to Paul Williams. He's obviously not fully fit and is way short of match practice (he hasn't even turned out for the reserves), but he put his balls on the block for the team today and gave a very good performance alongside Gerry. Given the criticism he's received since he came to the club, a poor performance today might well have done him more harm than good in the long run, so he fully deserves the plaudits he's getting tonight.

People around me were still moaning at Gifton and Clarke yesterday. ??? I've always known they are stupid, but I really really want to tell them so sometimes.

I am struggling to understand the mindset of people who turn up to games ready to shout their hateful abuse at a player before a ball has even been kicked, or regardless of whether the player is playing well or not. One of my friends yesterday got into an argument with a Clarke-abuser yesterday and when he pointed out that Clarkey was having a great game the abuser just said "Well I still hate him anyway"! How do you even begin to deal with that kind of attitude? Give me strength! Smudge

Shout abuse at his favourite player (if sad bastards like that actually think any of our team is good) for 90 minutes and see how he likes it!

Thankfully I personally heard nothing of that sort today, those who do it......may as well sit in the away stand!

This has been the hardest match to choose a MOM from that I can remember.
Gifton should really have it, he was utterly superb. But then again, Sarbs, because he was utterly superb too. No hang on, what about Clarke? Ooer, no, I forgot about Russel. Yikes what about Svard? Or Taggart?
If I was forced at gunpoint to pick just one, it'd have to be PAUL WILLIAMS, because to turn on a performance like that at almost a moment's notice with no first team OR reserve team OR EVEN training with Stoke behind him recently, beggars belief. So I'd give it to him, as it's really the only thing I can think of that sets him apart from the others in this match.

Cutler received plenty of abuse.
These people who love nothing more than to barrack the players for the whole game cannot, in my mind, be supporters because isn't the whole thing about being a supporter that you support the team?
