Does anyone remember the away game at Blackpool, late 80s.
There was a right ruck with the coppers.
Ill always remember there was a wooden tea hut. A copper went in and started hitting Stokies with his baton through the counter.
It was promptly demolished in to little pieces, the tea urn was hurled at the coppers and they were trapped by the fence getting a pasting. Never seen so many helmets torn up and thrown around.

offthewall--it was 78 which was the first and worst and is the very reason groups of people from stoke have never been allowed into the pubs and clubs of blackpool as the riots continued in blackpool all night

What was the cause of the riots? Or was it all just ale induced? ;D

Was there a grass verge on fire or something and instead of running off, Stokies were running through to twat Blackpool fans?

There was a roof on the away end then of course. I dont remember much trouble with Blackpool fans. It was the era of sharpened coins and darts. When the trouble inside started the Blackpool teens fucked off up the paddock out of the way. The main fighting was with the coppers. They kept sending more in through the gates in the fence at the front but they were set upon as soon as they got in. Happy days'

Dont remember much hand to hand combat, in those days home fans could walk from one end of the ground to another, needless to say they spent both halves at the opposite end to the stokies, i just remember a hole appearing in the side of the tea stand and then it getting bigger and bigger. The whole sea front was sprayed in stoke graffiti and i was told that it got on the main news as some stokies had tried to saw down blackpool tower. probably rubbish but that's what i was told

ale,ale and more ale was the basic cause. It was also at the time when the "dying fly" off tiswas was all the craze and in the early hours one of the lads decided to jump on the roof of a police car and lay on his back and did the dying fly!!! After all that had gone on earlier i was amazed when the coppers just helped him down laughing their heads off !!!

I just remember a Blackpool fan on this or the old board talking about it. Maybe the bit about fighting I presumed but the words he used was "that You Stokies seemed to be obsessed with fire and were that mental You ran through it". ;D

Read the title and before opening it imediately thought Blackpool 77/8, first season down under Durban. We're on the march with Durban's army we're all going division one And we'll really make them cower when we smash their Blackpool tower Cos stoke city are the greatest football team and to think we look down at some of the songs of today As mentioned Stoke set fire to the grass bank behind the Blackpool kop, though recall it being at the end of the game..perhaps they did it before too ..bit daft really , even dafter when you think the end was split with both Blackpool and Stoke and Stoke were coming down the grassbank at the time. Boxed a pub off on the friday night , for saturday pre match and again post match , as quite difficult to get a pub on the Saturday after some people had a few issues on the friday night Me and a mate got there friday afternoon thinking we'd be early , think we were one of the last to arrive paid something like £2.50 pn for B+B recall a bloke using the roof girders to make his way from the stoke section of the kop over the segregation fence to hang over the blackpool fans section and goading them. And durban going mad that British rail had put on 'seaside specials' for that weekend only.. but the best as others have said was the sight of literally thousands of stokies on the prom dropping to the floor to perform the dieing fly..

I thought I was the only one alive who remembered that!! funniest thing ever at an away game... remember this song to the tune of I do like to be beside the seaside.. Oh I do like to be beside the seaside Oh I do like to be beside the sea With my bucket and my spade and my pocket hand grenade ..... beside the seaside beside the sea Blackpool's red and white mile anyone? We got there at 9am played on the slots all day and won about £10 (a lot then) upgraded our tickets, had chips for lunch and watched the City take over Blackpool awesome...

The match date was April 8th 1978 Attendance 12,201 it wasnt a bank holiday or easter holiday. Here is a link to Durbans programme notes for the following home game against Millwall tinypic.com/view.php?pic=wt7eco&s=5

Bloody hell how time goes, was a great stoke city weekend one of the lads with us had to go to the hospital because when a stokie threw the tea urn over the fence it bounced off the top and came back and hit my mate on the head.I still laugh about that now when i see him down the match. Also loads of stokies had loads of coins to pay for their beer food ect because the slot machines were robbed on a big scale.

I remember the late 70s match really well. As we walked down the concrete steps at the back of the away end the grass to the side had indeed been set on fire.
I also remember well that a guy in front of us turned to his mate and said "Take the kids she said, take the bloody kids"
Well it was Blackpool!
