Since Pulis has been at the club, all we've done us what Nige originally called the 'Rugby League style kick off' i.e. lay ball back to central midfielder, who smacks it towards the touchline where a forward should be. I suppose that theoretically this could win us a throw in straight from the off, but I've never actually seen a productive result. It either goes straight out, the defender heads it clear or we don't win the second ball. I just can't see the purpose of it, we lose the ball straight from kick off.
Man, we must have things good right now if I'm complaining about how we kick off.

Trouble is, i now do it on Fifa, see, i pick up bnad habits, and the trouble of Fifa is, no bugger runs into the opposition half at the start, swines!
I blame reality, ruins computer games :-)

I remember when i used to play football my manager always said ' forward from the off ' and we'd do a similar tactic to Stoke's, that wasn't because we thought we had ANY chance of scoring, it was just so it would take the opponents more time to score.

Beent hinking the same thing all season. Im guessing the point is to try and win a throw from the start but think it would be far better to pass the ball around a bit, get a little possession before building an attack?

I think if anything needs working on it's defending kick off's we could've conceded after we went 2-2 at Villa! Not often we've nearly conceded early in the second half at home too

We have been doing this for years, we were doing this in the late 70's with Big Bren.

I would like to see Thomas Sorensen take the kick off at the Emirates. He's got an awesome kick. Wouldn't it be great to see Tommy blast the kick off past Almunia. First goal timed at 3 seconds... Even if he missed he would still have time to trot back to his goal Gooaaarrnn Stoke.

I remember being taught this routine at junior school a long long time ago, it worked a treat then! Couldn't get the ball in the air though.
